Reviewed 10 June 2010

My husband and I had the opportunity to spend five days at the Alkan Holiday Village in Esentepe at the beginning of June and were so happy that we chose to stay there. We had gone to Cyprus primarily to visit friends whose families live in Kyrenia and wanted to stay in a location outside of the city. Fortunately, through some net surfing, I found the web site for the Alkan Holiday Village. What attracted us to this hotel initially was its location right across the road from the sea. We also prefer places that are small, not very touristy and reasonably priced. (One should be aware that it is located about 30 minutes from the downtown, but it is a beautiful drive.)
The Alkan Holiday Village fulfilled our expectations and more! The bungalow which we had was very comfortable and spacious. There was a full kitchen (had we chosen to cook), a lovely veranda looking out to the sea, cable television and an upstairs bedroom with air conditioning (if we had wanted) or screened windows that could be kept open for the sound of the sea at night (our choice since the weather was still comfortable). The traffic on the lake road in front of the village is a bit heavy at times, but there was very little traffic later in the evening. The sea lulled us to sleep each night!
Besides the very pleasant bungalows, the Alkan Holiday Village also has a beautiful pool and a lovely restaurant called the Turtle Beach Restaurant which is right on the grounds. Each morning we went there to have our Turkish breakfast (included with our room rate), and we ate dinner at the restaurant a few evenings because the food was so delicious and carefully prepared.
Finally, and maybe most importantly, we highly recommend the Alkan Holiday Village because of its owners and hosts Alkan and Sharron and their wonderful staff including Nazor, Velly and Uncle. We definitely had the feeling that we were in a cozy "bed and breakfast" while staying there because they did everything they could to make us feel at home and to help us with any questions or concerns. We will always remember their graciousness and kindness as well as their humor!
