Review of Coogi's Restaurant

Coogi's Restaurant
Ranked #6 of 23 Restaurants in Mdina
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$14 - US$41
Description: Grape vine covered courtyards, home grown herbs, multi coloured lights, and a myriad of wind chimes give a flirtatious wink of what's to come. You feel like a special guest in your best friend's home. If you have visited Coogi's before then you surely don't need reminding that the courtyards, bastions and internal medieval rooms are simply magical when bathed in soft candle light. Dining beneath the orange trees, accompanied by the tinkling of wind chimes, and the sound of running water is to be transported to a peaceful place which is all to easy to forget still exists here in Malta. A short history about the building itself. Essentially, this was an old Arab townhouse, with some walls of Arab origin, and some rooms dating back to the Norman era, with later additions throughout history. Its façade faces South, while the bastion terrace looks toward the North, over land and sea, with St. Paul's Bay visible in the distance, and even Sicily on some clear nights. There is an underground spring and functioning well, and even a wartime air raid shelter. The shelter was hewn directly into the bastion walls. This place was in a state of disrepair when we first took it over, but we worked hard to retain all of the original features and built around these unique features (and on top of them, under them etc. etc...). We hope you enjoy the unique atmosphere this building helps to create. - Olivier and Eric, owners & founders.

Beautiful atmosphere, having 2 courtyards for the summer nights. Very attentive and friendly staff and the food was excellent, all the way through. There is also a very good selection of vegan dishes at this restaurant.

On a very spontaneous trip to Mdina I found that lovely restaurant.

I did not expect much but what I got was really perfect. The restaurant has really cosy facilities. You immediately feel comfortable and ‘home’ when you enter. (Well, at least I did)

I went upstairs to the terrace that gives you an amazing view over Malta and with a cool breeze it was wonderful up there.

Although I was not too hungry I picked the Maltese menu and I made the right choice. The waiter was very mindful and friendly and could help me making my choice.

The food was very delicious. The ricotta filled ravioli have been very fresh and the stew of rabbit was also very special and I really liked the taste. Together with the vegetables it was perfect.

I finished the menus with some Cannoli like I never had them before. They have been very crisp and fresh and the cream inside had a great texture and taste.

I can fully recommend to stay at Coogi’s restaurant to relax and enjoy some very good food.

This was a beautiful restaurant in a quiet corner of Mdina with good Maltese dishes and even gluten free options.

Such a lovely tranquil restaurant, outside seating in a charming courtyard with a little pool with goldfish swimming around. The food is delicious, and they have a vegan section, which I haven’t seen anywhere else here, would warmly recommend!

There lots of lovely restaurants in the medina but we liked the look of this restaurant as it has the trip advisor award. Plenty of Seating inside and out with a nice atmosphere and quite charming in character. Staff very friendly and helpful. We wanted to try a traditional Malta meal and was advised to try the rabbit. The rabbit was absolutely beautiful, very tasty and had been prepared well with not many bones, definitely recommend trying this dish. Highly recommend this restaurant as it made our visit to the medina memorable.
