Nice view, clean, quiet not fancy

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Aug 2019
We stayed here one night and it was fine. The room was spacious with a nice view. I had a little trouble book and had to book and rebook due to price. It was hard communicating with the hotel about this to ensure we were alright to stay there. Upon arrival I know why, the people that own it do not speak English. The person behind the desk is a relative and one of the few that only speak English. Common on the island here. The islanders are a bit more gruff we found. The hotel is in town, walkable from the ferry. They were still cleaning when arrived but let us leave our things. There is a fridge in the hallway if you need to keep things cold - but use at your own discretion. They did have the best blackout curtains of our stay in Iceland (over 16 different places). They got it. We had our one-year old and it was so much easier to sleep with great curtains. Breakfast was great. Our daughter loved the little pancakes. They also brought out a highchair and some toys for her to play with.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Hamar Guesthouse. The room was spacious, the people very nice, the location perfect - one block from the harbor - but still very quiet. We did have a car so getting around the island was very easy.

I had been looking for few days for a room but everything fully booked or to big for just me and expensive and finally I found this and I booked here a room for 3 nights
    BUT
I sent a mail asking if they had any available rooms for this three days because I was coming for a football tournament that my daughter was playing on and they had a room for me . I got a confirmation by email that I had a booked room after asking for it
    I booked this in Mars
and in may I replayed the same mail asking if the room had double bed or 2 single and I got the answer both
and when I came to check in there was no booking and the lady (the owner i think) went in the computer to read the emails and excuse she gave because it wasn't booked was because i didn't answer the last mail that was the answer to my question
after getting a confirmation from them I didn't think I needed to call to check if everything was okay
so she said that she only had the 1 and 3 night available but not the second but she said she would figure something out and take care off it
there was nothing sorry it's my mistake or nothing
so next day when I came to ask what they were going to do about it they offered me instead to sleep in this creepy box (see in pictures) i was really not happy about this but I didn't have time to deal with all off this because my daughter is playing and I didn't what to miss it so I put my stuff in the car and was thinking about going with the last ferry back and coming with the first in the morning but the i would have missed the first games in the morning
so I got a room at a different hotel which was more expensive but there was nothing else for me to do because I was not going to sleep in this box in a room with lot off other people
and later that day I came to tell her that I found another room and was not coming back she just said wonderful
and I said the I just couldn't take this and is was really not okey how everything ended upp and she was really rude and did not care and like the day before it was just my fold not hers
    I don't recommend this place

Stayed on this wonderful Guesthouse one night in May, and what can we say...it was just perfect. The owner was at reception and she is so lovely. Gave us info what to see in Vestmannaeyjar and best way to go there. Also we had late travel with Herjólfur..so she offer us to stay in the room as long as we want...she would just clean it the day after. Perfect service..really loved our stay.

The rooms were perfect - roomy, comfortable, clean. We had a corner room with views of the mountain on one side and towards the harbor on the other. Didn't see an elevator but only 3 floors in hotel (we were on 3rd) so an easy walk. Close to everything. Breakfast, included, was delicious - fresh breads, meats, cheese, oatmeal, beverages, grains, hard boiled eggs, cereals, Skyr and more. If you walk away hungry, it's your own fault. We sat at a table looking out the large picture window on a warm(ish) sunny day. We arrived after 8:30pm but were able to get our rooms without a problem. The hostess was very nice as well.

Room tip: Corner rooms on 3rd floor (#306?) nice view from 2 sides. Balcony off hallway right next to our door to sit and view the mountain and birds.

We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are a good size, clean, light and bright with comfortable beds and nice feather duvets and good ensuite shower facilities. We appreciated the tea and coffee making possibility. The location is excellent, being about 200 metres from ferry and indeed on arriving you can see the house and name from the ferry, so you know exactly where you are going! We were given a nice, helpful welcome and in the morning enjoyed a good breakfast to set us up for the day. Would certainly go there again if going back to Heimaey.
