Description: The housing Laekjarbrekka was built as a dwelling in 1834, by the influential Danish ship owner and merchant P.C Knutzon. Hel also build a bakery and a turf house in the same lot and brought the Danish baker T.D Bernhöft to Iceland to practice his trade here. Bernhöft, who was for a long time the only baker in Reykjavík, bought the houses in 1845. The Bernhöft family continued in the baking business at this location for two generations, building a retail shop onto the dwelling house in 1855. This addition is today the part of the restaurant facing the main street. The building was used as a dwelling until 1961, and a small shop was there until the time of reconstruction began in 1980. By then, the house had fallen into disrepair, and had been neglected for a long time. Its future had been uncertain until 1979, when it and several other houses in the same block were declared protected buildings. During reconstruction, every attempt was made to preserve the original appearance. It is therefore with great pleasure to invite you to dine in this beautifully restored house, which has an eventful 180-year history behind it.

Location is excellent and the food was pretty good. I had the cod and it was probably the best cod I have ever had!

A very nice and elegant place located in the very city centre, along the shopping streets. Very kind staff and fair prices. Excellent food. Do not miss the Lamb and go for a three menu courses. Big portions.

Husband and self in Rejkiavik for 4 nights. We came across this restaurant after arriving and having a walk around. It looked nice so went in and were delighted with everything. We both had lobster soup as a starter and then I had what I would call a thick fish pie or similar. It was fish potatoes and onions in a bowl topped with cheese. It really was delicious. My husband had the special which was halibut. Big portions a d excellent food and service. We had a bottle of wine. This is Iceland which is very expensive. Highly recommend.

I decided to have dinner here on a Friday night because of the building.

I grabbed the last available table and felt like most tables were locals.

The service was very good attentive but overpowering.

Enjoyed the local produce plate including fermented shark and sheets head terrine and 3 other different fish dishes.

This little gem is so darling. It reminded us of an old historic building in New England with the original wide plank wood floors and tall windows. It was easy to make reservations online for the exact time we wanted. It was very noisy with the multiple conversations, and it was a struggle for our waitress to be attentive to us. For dinner we ordered the fish stew and fried haddock. The stew was more like a potato casserole, which was good but super filling. Dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse, absolutely delightful.
