This tiny restaurant in the lower level of a building has amazing breakfasts. The breakfast is pretty standard western breakfast (tea, coffee, eggs various ways, bacon, toast, etc.), but just well done. What I really like is the atmosphere - small and intimate, with a coffee-house feel (as in a place live music is played to a small audience - though I don't know if they do that). If they're still there, we'll definitely go there the next time we're in town. This is on my "must visit" list.

Brunch with the locals! Charming cafe with nice warming breakfast. Yes we know Iceland is expensive, but you're on vacation. You worked way too hard all year. Enjoy!

Grai Kotturinn was just across from our hotel. Small and quaint. You seat yourself, look over the menu and order at the counter. I had the pancake breakfast with bacon and my husband was very happy with his eggs, bacon, toast and pancake breakfast. Not a lot of breakfast places in Reykjavik to choose from. Open for breakfast and lunch only. We would have eaten there more than once if we hadn't had such early start times for tours each day.

Arrived at KEF at 7a and couldn't check in to our hotel until 3p. Decided to take the FlyBus from KEF to BSI (the bus station) and look for breakfast. Forty-five minutes later, we stashed our luggage in the rental lockers at BSI (for approx $12) and took a cab to the Grei Kattan (Gray Cat). I think it would be a nice and easy walk to the Gray Cat but it was raining the morning we visited.

The restaurant is slightly below the sidewalk level (take a few steps down from the sidewalk) but it isn't in a basement as some articles I read indicated. Look for the red door with the cat head logo. It is across the street from the Culture House Museum.

The space is small, clean, and very cozy -- a perfect hideaway while you are trying to settle your sightseeing plans for the day. Order at the counter. The staff delivers your order to your table.

My husband ordered their infamous Truck. I ordered pancakes. We both ordered coffee. The coffee is tasty!

The Truck is eggs, bacon, toast, potatos, stewed tomatoes, pancakes, and butter. The order of (3) pancakes are the size of a dinner plate and are topped with bacon. Every item was well done and a good value for the cost. Both orders contained a lot of food. We could've shared one order.

If you are looking for some American-style breakfast comfort food, eat here! It is a nice way to shake off the red eye flight grogginess and start your first day in Reykjavik.

Heard about it, trying it out. Cozy place! Serving is huge yay enough for both of us. Closes at 2pm, almost no one when we arrive at 1:45pm on a Wednesday
