Review of 101 Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Nov 2024via mobile
Hotel was perfectly placed for exploring the city. Staff were super helpful and happy to accommodate any requests. We ate at the bistro around the corner for lunch prior to our afternoon/evening visit to the blue lagoon and food and service were excellent. The only negative so to speak about our stay would be the bathroom. Firstly having no door was not ideal especially if travelling with friends as a flimsy curtain did not afford any privacy. Secondly having a wet room set up with the shower right next to the toilet meant the toilet was drenched every time you showered. The tiles on the floor although lovely were extremely slippy when wet especially as the water didn’t drain quickly and the floor around the toilet remained wet and slippy for some time. At least a blade to swipe the water into the drain would be helpful to prevent slips. That said we did thoroughly enjoy our stay.

The hotel was nice and in a good location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a lot about the hotel experience that I did not like. First, get real room door card keys. The electronic insert key was ridiculous. In a country with a lot of day travel and changing of clothing layers, the key was a hassle to manage and simply not a good concept. Checked into the room, and the mini refrigerator did not work. It was stocked with warm beers, cocktails, and drinks. I expect this to be found in a pre check in room check. I left a note and it was replaced when I returned. I admit, I did not need the mini fridge and did not expect one, but with there being one, I feel this is sloppy room readiness. Although I had the top room type for the hotel, I did not like the bathroom design. Toilet was behind a translucent glass door by the sink and shower open to the room. I prefer doors and not being able to see the figure of someone in the toilet. Finally, I don’t take parking as a given. The hotel has 5 spaces marked for hotel only. I was given a car park sign for the hotel. Did not expect spaces to always be available. When I checked in, the staff swore there should be a spot, but two cars were illegally parked with no hotel pass. Same happened two more days after day trips. Working this after I paid for parking does not help me. If the hotel is going to have designated and clearly posted spots for guest, monitor and enforce them. One evening the hotel van was even using a space, but the other spots were valid hotel guests. But I should not need to bring license plate pictures for the hotel to enforce their parking. Finally, I was surprised there was not even a small heating pot for water to make instant coffee in the room or coffee for guests in the lobby or bar. Just coffee with the full continental breakfast (which I had better breakfast for less price outside the hotel).
I think the hotel used the “designer” concept too much and forgot about guest experience. It is in the Marriott offering, but I would sacrifice location for a better overall guest experience.

Beautiful hotel, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location. It is also full of intriguing and unique art pieces. Very clean, serene and peaceful. The staff recommended a nearby restaurant and it did not dissappoint. In addition, I got great recommendations for a car rental. I'd love to stay here again.

Such a great find! The 101 hotel is perfectly located in the center of Reykjavik but just enough off the main streets to be quiet and private. I had actually walked by it many times on previous visits without knowing it was a hotel. The lobby, lounge and rooms are all warm and lovely, and the restaurant is perfect. They were able to help with questions, transportation and scheduling- all with great ease. A definite gem.

Well located hotel, small without too many rooms. Lovely staff, very clean and well designed room. We were upgraded and had a large room with a lovely park view. Lovely modern/contemporary decor which we loved. Went to the recommended neighbouring restaurant and had a fabulous meal. Highly recommend the 101 and would enjoy staying again.

Room tip: Limited onsite parking, however paid parking up the street. Hotel is right in the middle of town surrounded by shops and restaurants.

Great location to the old part of downtown and very convenient to bus stop 6 which is used for tour pickups and drop offs. The hotel gym, hot tub and steam room were also very good. Staff are awesome and also very helpful as well. They are knowledgeable and helpful with tour reservations and pickups.

Room tip: Didn't have a rental car butcibassume parking would not be easy
