Location is the only strength of this hotel

Review of 101 Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Sept 2024
Great location, v close to key attractions like the Music Hall, the beautiful church and shopping and restaurants. No amenities like coffee or water provided free of charge. Breakfast is not included and very expensive. At night, the loud music from surrounding clubs was horrible even with ear plugs. It really is the location that is this hotel's redeeming factor.
Date of stay: August 2024
Room Tip: You'll need something to drown the very loud noise each night from the surrounding clubs/bars

Overall rate this hotel as just ok.
We stayed at a competitor hotel on the first night and this hotel doesn’t compare.
Would not stay here again. Very noisy club next door. Our room was on the 2nd floor and heard the street noise.
Bathroom- balmain products - didn’t love the smell, overall awkward set up and mirror fogs up and then takes a long time to defog, toilet room was very small.
Bed was comfortable
No complementary breakfast even for gold member.
The bar is cozy and staff there was very nice and they made great drinks.

Good location. Small rooms. Minimal amenities. Moreover, the hotel "nickels and dimes" its patrons. Get this. After staying here for a total of 4 nights, management was going to charge $40 to extend check out by one hour. When I asked the front desk assistant Ollie why, the response was "you signed the form when you checked in" and "that's our policy". When I asked to speak to a manager, Ollie's response was "No. The manager is not working today so I cannot call him." I cannot recommend this hotel and encourage visitors to stay at an accommodation that is friendlier to its guests and nicer is its amenities. Very disappointing.

Room tip: Very disappointing.

This is an amazing, small, boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. (It is associated with Marriott.) It's one block from the shops and cafes of Rainbow Street, 6 blocks from the must-see Hallgrímskirkja Church, and a short walk to the harbor and Harpa Concert Hall. The pictures describe the hotel accurately - modern design, large & well appointed guest rooms, a cozy lounge area with fireplace, a small spa with sauna & long hot tub for 6 to 8, a fitness room and a hotel bar which serves a morning buffet. Ask for the 20% discount coupon for the hotel's restaurant around the corner (Kastrup) which served us a truly amazing, upscale dinner.

What sets this hotel apart, however, is the terrific staff! I wish I could remember all the names. Everyone's English is perfect and to a person they were positive, friendly and excellent customer service representatives. Johanna in particular was so very helpful in patiently answering all our questions, offering recommendations and making our stay in Reykjavik truly wonderful.

There are many hotels and guest houses in Reykjavik. You will not be disappointed if you stay at the 101 Hotel.

Room tip: Call the front desk 10 minutes before you wish to use the sauna. Staff goes downstairs to turn on the steam & get it ready for you!

This hotel is unbeatable in terms of location—just a 2-minute walk from the city center! The staff are incredibly friendly, and the rooms are impeccably clean. Our room was on the last floor and it was nice and quiet.

There is a great restaurant across the street and the absolute best croissant just around the block! I highly recommend staying here!

Good Points: Excellent location in the heart of the town. Buffet breakfast was good but expensive.

Bad Points: Poor seating in the room. Room lighting was very bad. No light for reading in bed. Heavy street noise. No door on the bathroom. Expensive.

If it wasn't for the excellent location of the hotel, right in the heart of everything, I would rate it even worse.

Room tip: Bring earplugs.
