We traveled to Reykjavik for the first time in late August. We had only a few expectations on what to do, where to go and mostly where to stay. I took a gamble and chose a hotel that had good reviews and seemed to have the amenities we wanted. What an amazing surprise was waiting for us! The Holt is a treasure of a place located just outside of the busiest parts of the city. Easy walking distance to shopping, dining and all of the attractions of the city.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with the kind hospitality that Icelandic people are known for. We were able to check in early, and our room was all set for us with the pull out sofa made up and ready to go for our adult son. From our window, we could see the steeple of Hallgrimskirkja. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. The rooms have light filtering curtains- great for the long sunny days.

We had rented a car at the airport and were delighted to find that there was ample, free parking around the hotel.

All around, we had a wonderful experience in Iceland, made possible by our home base of the Hotel Holt.

Room Tip: Room 403 is gorgeous, spacious and I highly recommend it.

Amazing staff and great hotel

The hotel is a very good place to explore from
Very close to the centre

The rooms were perfect very clean and a good size the beds are very comfortable

The staff are amazing and very helpful
And we booked several trips including hop on hop off bus and the golden circle through reception
They are so helpful and will find you the perfect trip
We saved money booking through hotel

The staff really go above and beyond and everything was perfect
The breakfast was great

We would defnatley stay there again

Disappointing and False Information

This hotel advertises many things that it doesn’t provide. For $450, one would expect a bathroom larger than an airplane bathroom with no electric outlet. There is no control for heating and no AC. We booked and paid extra for a City View. There is zero view, only that of the street. The bed and pillows are very uncomfortable. The suite was a big room with a sofa and small tv. That’s it. Breakfast is an extra 25€ and there is zero other food and drink available. We were here for 2 nights, there is no bar. I would never stay here again. Very stark and uncomfortable and you can’t even get a drink or snack.

Room tip: No assistance with bags, one person elevator, NO restaurant other than pre booked breakfast.

Nice hotel

We have stayed at hotel Holt for 4 nights and we have enjoyed at all. Staff was very helpfull, rooms was clean and nice equipped, good breakfasts. Location close to the city center. We can recommend to families as well as couples. If we will go to Iceland once more, we will stay at the same hotel again.

A brilliant haven of calm and serenity with beautiful art in all rooms

When we came to Hotel Holt I was not sure about it. The range of services is more limited tha I am used to. There is no restaurant or proper bar for instance. But it grew on me. The things it does are really done very well. The breakfast is very healthy and with lovely produce. The rooms are kept very clean and housekeeping is highly effective. The people at the desk are really efficient. The ambience of the hotel is fantastic. It is so calming and very peaceful. The hotel walls are covered by fantastic art from the leading artists of Iceland's past. It is totally brilliant. Please try this hotel.

Work of Art

I loved being surrounded by the beautiful art collection, but it's the customer service that sets this hotel apart. Weeks before my trip, they were helpful in booking airport transfers and excursions. Adam at the front desk waited up for my 2:30 am arrival and Jennifer helped with a taxi to Sky Lagoon and other arrangements. The breakfast buffet was outstanding with yummy Icelandic skyr and gorgeous pastries. Only drawback is that the art-filled bar is only open a few days a week and it was closed during my entire stay. Yes, the rooms are tiny, but this place more than makes up for it with a big heart in the center of everything you want to see in the city.

Room tip: Room 220 on the entrance street side had a peekaboo view of the sea and was very quiet at the end of a hallway.
