Clean hotel with a super nice bar and sauna

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Feb 2025
Most important things for us is that the hotel is clean and well situated. It was so we were happy with our choice and felt the service was mostly good (always very good from the reception staff).

We read other reviews about the noise and I didn't think much of it. But both Friday and Saturday night we were woken up a few times by drunk people screaming in the streets. We were pretty surprised as the area seems more upmarket. But the hotel cannot do much about that - it is just something to mention.

I would highly recommend to not order food here, either via room service or at the bar. The cocktails were awesome though and the bartenders are doing a fantastic job... but the chef was a bit of a miss, sorry :(

Having the spa after a super long day of hiking was great. I would recommend staying here if you're travelling as a couple, just do not order food :)

When you flew out of Boston at 11:30PM and no sleep, the nicest words you can hear the next morning when you're hoping just to store your luggage are "Your room is ready". And it only got better. There is a sauna and small pool with lounge chairs in the hotel which figured as a welcome retreat for us. We also went to the wine bar where the attendant gave us lots of local information including tiny utility bills offset by only living in the midst of active volcanoes. And you can see the hotdog stand that is very busy through the windows of the hotel. Apparently, the granddaughter runs the stand which was opened by her grandfather. Windows were always open which was interesting and explained by cheap utilities. Very refreshing and we enjoyed it. Our 3d floor room was irregular in shape with prominent eaves; I enjoyed the view. Our bed was very comfortable as well as the separate quilts so there was no stealing of covers. Excellent setup! ;). The hotel is situated in the old part of town within walking distance of much. And the day we left, we got into a conversation with the GM who followed up on our cab reservation without us asking. A very welcoming and comfortable place. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

I am a sucker for points programs, so I generally choose Hilton hotels when available. The Konsulat was one of the best properties I’ve stayed at in the Nordics/Scandinavia. We stayed 4 nights in a Diplomat suite. The bed was perfectly comfortable, duvet was dreamy (so much so that I pulled the cover off, located the brand and purchased 2 to use at home) and the bathroom was very well appointed. Excellent blow dryer, quality products and water pressure. The room had 2 large balconies with doors we kept open all night to offset the temperature of the hotel (hubby and I intentionally keep our home around 10 degrees Celsius). Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Only gripe - the wine selection at the bar was pretty subpar, but this seems to be a theme around Iceland.

Stick a pin in the town centre map of Reykjavik and it’ll be in the lobby of the Konsulat Hilton, so location is 11/10, the rest is 10/10

It has all the unmentionable features you’d expect of a Hilton. Impeccably clean rooms, sumptuously comfortable beds, huge spacious bathrooms with proper showers, first class fresh appetising breakfast and welcoming staff.

What isn’t Hilton is the old world charm of the place, it’s steeped in history and has a charm which the modern concrete places simply can’t achieve. You’ll love it.

The jewel in the crown however is the bath-house on the lower ground floor. A secret oasis to unwind and wash away the cold while liberating the muscles at the end of the day. Fantastic.

10/10. Highly recommended.

Reykjavik is a wonderful city to visit, the people are very friendly and helpful. The city is well-kept and clean. October was perfect to visit, this time of year when the weather turns toward the colder times in Iceland you'll find the crowds are less as we did.

Reykjavik Konsulat is a very stylish and comfortable hotel and we were very glad we chose it. Unlike some of the others we considered, whose styles were more Nordic minimal, Reykjavik Konsulat seemed warm and sophisticated with rich colors and cozy furnishings. The shower was amazing. I felt like I was at a spa. The breakfast was excellent (although expensive) and the service we received throughout the hotel was very good. I would definitely stay here again if I am lucky enough to return to Iceland.
