Description: Seafood restaurant by the old harbor in Reykjavik, Iceland. Founder was Kjartan Halldórsson who lived and served at the Seabaron until Elísabet, an employee who worked at the Seabaron with Kjartan with passion for a long time and helped him continue the business when it got busier every year, took over in his final days. They're unique grandfather/daughter friend relationship became a blooming business by the old harbor and more and more people wanted to come and try this old fishermans lobster soup that he swore to be the best in the world! Kjartan is remembered by anyone that was lucky enough to meet him and his spirit still lives at the Seabaron. The menu is the same as when he started it and we continue to serve fairly priced freshest Icelandic fish grilled on skewers and the worlds best lobster soup! P.S our beers are quite cheap and go very well with our delicious menu! Our soup and skewers are lactose and glucose free!

If you are looking for something fancy this is not for you. The restaurant is located in old fishing harbor, in old fishing warehouse. It is more like fast food, but regardless of that it is excellent. We had famous lobster soup and we didn't regret. It is excellent meal to warm your body after strolling around cold Reykjavik.

This is a very casual option with great fresh fish. It just serves soup or various varieties of fish kebab. Staff very helpful and deceptively large as they have a backroom and upstairs seating areas as well. The arctic char was so fresh as was the hake. Icelandic prices!

This place was delicious. I got the lobster soup (it’s a must) and the Arctic Char- which was prepared simply and beautifully. It’s a super casual place right on the harbor, where everyone sits together at long tables on old cushioned buoys. It was a great last meal in Iceland.

Hi Kellaina!
So glad you enjoyed your last meal in Iceland with us :) What an honor!
We enjoy the simplicity Kjartan (the founder) started this place with and has it stayed like that ever since. Tables you share with strangers that all of a sudden become dinner partners talking about their travels!
We don't offer customers wifi and that is our excuse, we love when strangers interact with each other :D

My husband and I went here our first night in Iceland. The weather was cold and very windy (as I imagine it often is), and after a long walk to the Old Harbor neighborhood we were very hungry and chilly. The Sea Baron is an unassuming little building close to the water, with just a few long wooden tables and stools inside. We ordered the lobster soup and a fish kabob (they recommended the cod) and a couple beers. We were very, very happy.

Lobster soup seems to be kind of an Icelandic staple, and this place does it right. The soup is hearty and packed with flavor without being too thick like a bisque. They serve it with delicious soft bread to tear apart and dunk in the soup. I can't think of a dish more perfect for the weather and ambience. The skewer, too, was delicious and very fresh. The fish was perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned, served with fresh grilled veggies. Compared to the other restaurants we went to, this place is fairly reasonable, a great option for a casual meal.

After a cold rainy day of sightseeing and hiking, the hot bisque, warm bread, grilled salmon and scallops for the spot. Busy place but people don't stay long, so room at the tables opens up. The grilled salmon was the best! There is a public parking lot on same side of street about 1/8 mile down.

Hi Wendyl!
Thanks for the 5 stars!
We are glad you came for a visit after a day out of hiking, our food is exactly perfect after that :)
Thanks for the recommendation the parking lot, people often have a hard time finding free ones around. We recommend swimming to us, as we are by the harbor :)
