Just back from 3 lovely relaxing weeks with the Almond Holiday Village. We had visited the Almond for lunch/dinner with friends but never stayed there. These meals and the service had been excellent so we had high expectations - it did not disappoint. We booked direct with the Almond - couldn't have been easier - friendly and efficient. You can can conveniently pay your deposit in the UK - we did this by bank transfer. We were 3hrs late checking in (air traffic control ......), arriving around midnight. The greeting on arrival was warm and friendly - check-in was quick and efficient - bags whisked up to the room whilst doing the paperwork.
This is a hotel with character - warm and welcoming, family owned and family run - they take care to get to know you and do their utmost to make sure you have a wonderful time. If you want to hire a car, go on a trip, need information - nothing is too much trouble.
We had a room in the hotel - at the front rather than the pool - this can be a quieter option in busier months. The garden bungallows are lovely if you want a bit more space. The room was modern with a touch ot Cypriot, spotless, spacious, well appointed, with TV, tea/coffee making facilities, minibar fridge, and thankfully - very efficient and quiet aircon which we certainly needed some nights. Our bathroom had a sink, loo and shower, bathrobes, and the shampoo, soap, conditioner, etc, that you would expect in any quality hotel. Plenty of towels - regularly changed (by leaving them on the floor)- conveniently - including 2 beach towels for the sunbeds.
Breakfast - so much choice cereal, fruit, crepes (try the one with honey and nor cheese), eggs as you like them from their own hens, or if you have the appetite- to a great full-English. Pool is crystal - some mornings you will see Ali (the owner) vacuuming and scrubbing the the pool - just clean isn't good enough!
We don't normally eat-in much but we did this time. The restaurant has lunch and dinner menu to suit all tastes (fish is particularly good), with the food of a price and quality to match any local restaurants.
For anyone with mobility problems the hotel may be a little out of the way, so a car is useful although not essential if you can manage a five minute (flat) walk. This brings you to the main road where you can catch a dolmus (bus) that will take you where you want - there are bus stops but the bus will stop where you want - when approaching it will toot and/or flash its lights - just stick you arm up - tell the driver where you want to go - name of a hotel - beach, whatever. Trip into Kyrenia cost 5TL - less than a £1. Taxis are clean, cheap and punctual - just as at reception and away you go - to Escape beach cost 25TL - just over £4.
WiFi is some of the best that I have experienced in a hotel - plenty of access and good speeds.
Did we like it - well - we've already booked for next year- so has everyone else we met during our stay- enough said!
