Afentra Studios in Nidri Lekas. As traditional Greece goes you'll be unlikely to find anything better than this. A fairly new building that the picture in the Olympic brouchure does not do justice to. The rooms are bright and large with nicely furnished balconies. The usual sometimes quite hard beds you would expect though. The best and most important thing is the location. It realy is no more than 50 metres from the beach - and what a beach it is. Typical Greek beach though. Not sand but shingle and pebbles as you would expect in this part of the world. The views are out of this world. The water is calm and warm. Been traveling to greece for 10 years to this type of location and this is without doubt the best we have found as yet. It's quite near the crossroads to the waterfall on the main road into Nidri but you won't hear it from the apartments. As for Nidri its quite a busy little town but not overdeveloped with any major hotel chains or disco's etc. Things are getting dearer though. And not just because of the Euro exchange rate. An average beer will cost you 3 euros. Some places were charging 5 (Yes nearly a fiver £) for a beer so ask before you buy. Some places were charging as little as 2 euros for the same beer. Any bar or resteraunt NOT displaying prices clearly should be treated with caution. Average dinner for two including local wine was between 25 euros and 45 euros - so again check first. Unfortunatly price is no indication of quality in Nidri. Nidri also happens to have the Crapest Italian resteraunt in the world - the 500 (near the harbour front) now I love Italian food - but this was a new one on me. Pizza with only three ingredients - dough, something i think they were trying to pass as cheese, and, salami. That's it! and it was cold. And the base was tough as old boots. Pasta with tinned prawns and nothing else! Amazing! The best place we ate was the Anna Maria Grill which is on the main road heading north (towards Lekada Town) out of Nidri on the left a couple on minutes walk up from the waterfalls crossroads. Excellent local Greek food. Try the mixed grill for two - Fantastic and at a very reasonable price. Overall the apartments are very good, the location excellent, the owner very friendly and very clean and presentable. I recomend to Greek lovers everywhere but - budget carefully when eating and drinking out.

The Afentra Studios were ideally placed. Off the busy main road so were quiet. A ten minute stroll along the flat into the centre of Nidri but with plenty of tavernas, bakeries and supermarkets to hand. The beach north of the town centre was the best and had two watersports centres on them within 50m of one another. Although this resort is dubbed suitable for dinghy sailing, it was limited by poor winds. The studios also had use of a good sized hotel pool within 20 m. The studios were spacious and spotless. The photo often used is of the back of the stuios so does not present them well. Maids cleaned every other day and the the sheets, towels etc were changed twice a week. The water problem reported last year has much improved. On the night of our arrival, around 6pm, the shower was just a dribble, but there were no problems for the rest of the time. We were told the owner added an extra pump to improve the pressure last year. He was very good - we had an electricity cut and he arrived within minutes of being phoned to fix it.

Nidri has a very busy road through it. The bypass is seldom used but we were told the road was to be pedestrianised this winter, but do check ........ it has been said before!! There are plenty of good tavernas - our favourtie was The Pinewood taverna just north of the apartments - , a few good shops but many sell 'tat'. If you take a car over to the beautiful beaches on the west side, do so early as parking is limited. Beware of the boats from Nidri claiming they visit them. Apparently they are banned from doing so by the port police. Good fun to catch the ferry to nearby islands and we had a grat day hiring a 30hp motor boat to tour round the nearby islands that belonged to the Onassis family and look at all the enormous yachts that had arrived to view the main island for sale. The trip'Sunset and Stars' is dear but well worth it.

My boyfriend and I went to Lefkas last year in late June with Olympic holidays and it was nothing less than amazing. The small self catering hotel was close to the beach and behind the main road but just off a little road. We didnt have any problems whatsoever and it was little short of the best holiday we've ever had. Amazing food, weather and the total relaxation ensued..

Nidri beach was unbelievably scenic . You can spot Meganissi etc from the beach and its lovely and unusually pebbly. By night the Nidri coast is just heavenly and still. There were NO louts or loud clubs but they got the bars and restaurants just right for couples young and old and even families. We hardly heard any English voices throughout the trip! In fact there were quite a few Italian folk and at one point my other half and I thought it looked like the cast of "Cocoon" had come into the sea for a dip!! If its good enough for the Italians it must be doing something right.

Having said that, we stopped by an Italian restaurant along Nidri beach front with.. the laid back, atmosphere and old fashioned decor were quaint and beachy if you can say that. OK I know it wasnt Greek but it was near enough!! There are other little beach cafe/restaurants and one of which, again on the Nidri beach front was just lovely. They did a monster of a moussaka but it was authentic and home made which is really what youre after on a holiday like this. When you go out to Nidri main street which lines the harbour you must have a kleftiko or stifado at this place : "Yefsi" Its the tastiest meal I think I had whilst I was there. The owner of Afentra Studios gave us his card entitling us to a discounted meal at his restaurant which was lovely. Trust me when I tell you that you can put on a stone easily in a week!

We took a boat trip on Odysseus which is an old Greek vessel which was amazing. The crew were brilliant and bring meats, cheeses and wine so that when they set up camp on Meganissi you can have a mouthwatering picnic. It was to die for! Make sure you take LOTS of sun cream, cover-ups to prevent burning and some sort of water shoes as some beaches can be really pebbly and hard to walk on. (more for Nidri beach). This trip on the boat though, was amazing. Do take sea sickness tablets if you're like me as it can be a little rocky! Absolutely brilliant day out and you can dive into the caves that they pass on the way to Meganissi. They also stop at another place whose name I forget but you can visit the old olive press. The climb is really steep so take your time. The little village on the top was sweet and ever so quaint. Really well worth visiting.

Travelling around the island, I would say, on hindsight, we should've hired a car for the day to go to Porto Katsiki. We ended up hiring a scooter and having a little episode with an ascending hair pin bend! The sheer drops on your way are terrifying but the scenery is the most beautiful. We ended up stopping at Vassiliki Bay which was soooo pretty. We both wish we had more time to have spent the evening there at their restaurants and bars. It was simply beautiful. Beach wise, you might find it useful to buy these little mats to put on the beaches with pebbles. Most of the stores in Nidri will sell them. Its just what you need really before you get prickled by the trees!

I would LOVE to go back to Lefkas - it was a once in a lifetime holiday and yeah, maybe we were a little luckier than other people but I guarantee you will love this place.
