This is a really wonderful beach to visit.
As we were there, the beach club just opened again. It was a bit chaotic. The bed’s costed 6€ each, the pavillions were not very cheap.
We also had a lunch from the snackbar. The burgers were good, bit the french fries were terrible. Too salted and it looked if they had been lying there from last year!
The overall experience however, was very relaxing.

Great location. Good atmosphere and spacious. Nice and large pool, wonderful and clear beach. Clean area, moderate prices.
But the only negative thing was the toilets are disgusting and the staff is not friendly.

If you seek for a place like Baja you probably have the same problem as I had - lack of swimming pool.

After few days at the beach I really wanted to relax in more comfortable place than public beach in Rethymno and Baja Beach Club was a hit! Great swimming pool, sunbeds, music and food.

Recommend to anyone who wants a different day during they stay on Crete!

Let me set the scene....

Having entered from the beachfront and being greeted be a rusty frontage, dissembled pagodas lying rotting in a corner, and off coloured (used to be white) sun beds lying empty on the sand... we approached the Baja beach "grand entrance" with some trepidation...

Having walked through the "Grand entrance" we are greeted by several sour faced and uniformed staff and an ill mannered "Hostess".

She says with a fake smile looking down her nose at us "can I help you?" clearly meaning "why are you lot here"?
Now, if the Baja Beach-club was teeming with 23 year old topless hotties, and lads with physiques from Love Island I could understand it.... But there were around 30 people in the whole place, mostly middle aged and generally looking pretty grim and miserable... So in my opinion we were a good catch (they clearly needed the business) and we would have spent some cash in there.
She then went onto explain the set-up:
€60 for a double bed, a pagoda with a chair and some towels/bottle of water.
€40 for normal beds with no towel.
€30 for normal poolside sun beds and
€12 for two sun beds "NOT AROUND THE POOL... ON THE GRASS"!!

Which brings me onto the place....
Grass not cut for several weeks, two flumes advertised all over their website... rusty and not working, with an old sunbed blocking the steps.
Cold, dirty (used to be white) pool and generally in a state of disrepair.

The whole reason we'd gone here was to use the flumes which we had promise do our little girl.... when asking if they were working we were told... maybe later, whatever that meant?? (I took it to mean "you pay up for our overpriced sunbeds/food//drinks then after a few hours when they're still not switched on we will mumble a half hearted apology and you can do what you want then because we've had your cash")!
To me stuff is either working or not, surely?

Anyway, Having opted for the €12 sun beds the fake smile faded in an instant, she clearly wasn't impressed and walked off literally without a word..
Needless to say, we did not stay, didn't sit on, or pay for the sunbeds, had four cups of overpriced (€4.50 per cup) of cold crap coffee and left.

In short this place is trying to be something like a cool Outdoor Club/DJ hot-spot - wanting to attract the beautiful people (think Las Vegas spring break or Bora-Bora in Ibiza) - It's not and never will be anything like this, it's the wrong type of resort to start with..... there is nothing else like this here, no nightclubs no 18-30's etc...
why don't they play to the crowd, encourage family's and couples inside, as that's the only people in this resort - having been her for two weeks and seen most of it...

This place could be (and might have been and one time) really cool, smart clean and welcoming - instead, its tired broken down and massively over priced, the sour faced staff are dressed they're from a cheap 1970's bond film spin off and the Hostess was a "wanna be" that thought she belonged somewhere in Marbella with the chavvy footballers wives crowd....

Please don't let this put you off Rethmno as a whole - The rest of the resort is lovely, you don't need this place - Avoid like the plague!

At first sight this joint might look attractive: beautiful sea, a nice large restaurant, sunbeds with an orderly layout..

Yet again: the place you go into the sea for swimming is a tiny strip and is the very place where speedboats and jet-skis are criss-crossing. Food is quite ordinary and if you were not foresighted enough to ask for a table "outside" (like our Belgian friends), you might end up with inside (cause at the time of rez'n, some of the eastern European staff do not bother to tell you what you might end up with).

Showers, dressrooms are basic but clean and orderly and the chief waiter from Bulgaria is the one most helpful. Thus 3-stars.
