Description: By The Wine is a cosmopolitan and trendy restaurant located at Lisbon's heart. At the historical city centre, one can find a unique ambient, extraordinary gastronomy options that leaves no-one indifferent. Although we opened doors in January 2015, we already made our way into some of the main international press editions like USA Today, Financial Times, L'Express or El País. To go together with the very special and exclusive wine selection of José Maria da Fonseca – oldest winemaker's family in Portugal –By The Wine offers various gastronomic options that include, among others, homemade bread from the Algarve, Iberian acorn ham and country sausages from Guijuelo (Salamanca area), a choice of cheese boards, Sado (river) oysters, mussel’s salad, salmon ceviche, carpaccio, entrecote and also desserts to go with the Muscatels from Setúbal, such as chocolate cake, almond tart and the typical “ Torta de Azeitão”. Just to have a cool drink later evening, during your city walk or at dinner to enjoy a unique and relaxed atmosphere, one can find many reasons to visit us at any time during the day.

We wandered past this place during the day and made a reservation for that evening. The staff were really lovely and showed us the table they had available for the evening. The wine is lovely and very reasonably priced. The food is also fab, I recommend the pork and the octopus. We loved it so much we went back the next evening for a drink after dinner

And so reasonably priced!! Fantastic wine!! We were staying at a hotel across the street and visited this restaurant 3 times. The service, is very typical for Portugal and perfectly acceptable. The food is outstanding and priced right! By 7pm, each night, this place is packed full with locals. That should tell you something......go early or make a reservation and try the Pariquita line of wines and also the froie gras!! You won't be disappointed!

We arrived wanting to come for a few drinks and snacks before dinner. The waitress who greeted us was surly and very rude. We were refused a table despite plenty being available and our assurances that we only wanted something quick before our dinner reservation. We eventually left as we weren’t impressed by the service. Thought we’d try again later as it looked nice and general reviews were positive. We were met by the same waitress who ignored us for ten minutes before condescendingly telling us that there wasn’t a table available. Advice to management - service is everything and there are so many friendly bars around that will offer a fantastic experience. You lost us based on how unwelcome your staff made us feel when we walked in. It’s a reasonable expectation to be told straight away if there isn’t a table available. Your staff member deliberately kept us waiting - surliness will lose you business in the long run. Disappointing as we were looking forward to it and tried twice despite our initial bad experience.

Walked into this restaurant completely by accident. Instantly was impressed by the decor and vibe of the place .
Wasn't very busy as was a Thursday early afternoon but had a great conversation with the staff. Took all the recommendations given on food and wine. Enjoyable meal and time spent here

Stopped here with friends, had a few glasses of wine and a charcuterie board. All was excellent except the service, which was somewhat brutally bad - just don’t expect any service and you’ll be okay
