We ordered the typical Dutch dinner special. Potatoes and seasonal vegetables mashed with a huge meatball. Hearty and delicious!

Before leaving the hotel we asked where to go where the tourist do not. We were told the best place was in the Jordann district at Café Sonneveld. Even though it was about a 45 minute walk from the hotel we struck out walking. The route took us though several old residential area and over several canals, very scenic. Our restaurant was in a residential neighbor right on a canal. I ordered liver and onions and it was outstanding. I know our family got tied of saying how good it was. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service could not have been better. I will say we took uber back.

We walked to this charming little pub-like restaurant from the Anne Frank House Museum. We were drained from the depressing but oh so important information that we observed and learned at the museum. The owner/manager, Cora, immediately recognized our need for a little decompression and brought us two glasses of Malbec. She even sat and talked with us for a short while, and took pictures of us for our trip record. She was delightful! The food is really good. We took Cora's advice and got a plate of aged cheese for our appetizer, then we each had the stamppot (one was a mixture of veggies, rice, and lamb; the other was similar but substituted sausage for the lamb). Everything was very tasty. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. Give it a try.

After a morning visit to The Anne Frank House, Westerkerk Church, and the Tulip Museum we wanted to try typical Dutch food and Cafe Sonneveld was a very good choice. The location is very nice as it is situated on a corner of a canal and from our canal side outdoor table we had a great view of Westerkerk.

We ordered a starter of bitterballen, which was delicious, and quickly became an addiction for all of us for the next few days! We tried the hearty Dutch stamppot which is mashed potato based and was delicious and also the pork Schnitzel which was very good. All of the beers were excellent.

Service was friendly and good and we were not rushed at all so we got to enjoy a nice, leisurely lunch in a great location on a sunny day. Before leaving the cafe, be sure to look inside at all of the memorabilia of Dutch comedian Wim Sonneveld.

I highly recommend Cafe Sonneveld for a good lunch spot. Afterwards you can continue walking around the area with many small boutiques and galleries since you are in the Jordaan district as this point.

So we are staying in the Red District and wanted to eat some where away from the crowds. Our hotel manger recommended Cafe Sonneveld that is located in the Jordan. He said we could walked there. The only problem is we are traveling with my 70yr + mother and she had a difficult time getting there. We took Uber back and that was perfect. The cafe is truly located in a neighborhood so it was quite and quant. The wait staff was very professional and answered all our questions. We found the prices reasonable and the food prefect. My wife and I got a traditional meatball mashed vegetables that was very tasty. My parents got liver and onions which they loved. We also got a bread plate which was really good. We ordered fries which was not necessary because it was to much food for us. This is the perfect place if you are looking for some place to eat that is not in the midst of the crowds.
