Have been there several times, with friends, family, boyfriend, family & friends, boyfriend & family, the list goes on. Everytime someone comes visit me in The Netherlands I make sure to take them to Hotel de Goudfazant. Not only the food is amazing (it is a 3-course menu, in which there are several options for starter, main dish and dessert), but the price is fair and the place itself: the atmosphere of the restaurant (mainly Dutch people, as it is not overcrowded with tourists) and the fact that it shares its ceiling with a garage makes it a pretty special place. When it comes to the food, it is extremely fresh, creative and with a huge variety (usually something between 5-8 options for starter, more or less the same for the main dish and dessert). I have eaten there stuff I have never seen in my life, when it comes to mixing ingredients, but it doesnt taste as exotic as it looks: it tastes like real food. It is a delight for both eyes and stomach. The staff is friendly and patient with non-Dutch speaking people. I advise a reservation, as the place can get really crowded in the evening.

Excellent service with a fantastic ambiance! Though the menu was only in Dutch, the waiters were happy to explain it in English. The food servings were very generous and delicious. I had the mackerel for starters, pork belly for mains and the ‘heavenly mud’ chocolate mousse for dessert (it was to die for)! Left feeling very content. Great for larger groups.

This restaurant is a very big hall, which can give place to so many visitors. Although we knew, we still made a reservation for the Friday night. Just in case. When we arrived it was packed. That is saying something. The service was not always as good – we had to wait a couple of times quite a while. Maybe because there were so many tables that it was hard to manage it all. Some dishes were excellent, others were disappointing. This could be taste or the way it was prepared. Rice was still a little too hard, for example. All together a nice experience.

We loved this restaurant. Former auto body shop with a great location on the river. We went on a Sunday night and did not need a reservation. The place is large but not noisy, though it was not full when we were there. Fun alternative to classic, downtown Amsterdam.
