I've stayed at Hotel Carmen numerous times over the years. Their warm and lovely staff, and homemade jams at breakfast, made this place feel like a home away from home! The rooms are comfortable, the service thorough and professional, and the wifi is great. They have heating for the cold months, but no cooling for the summer; they'll give you a fan if you ask nicely :) That works very well since Geneva doesn't get very hot. They didn't have a water conservation program till the last time I stayed here (where you hang up your towels if you don't want them washed) but I would just tell the housekeeping staff how often I wanted the towels changed and they honoured my request. Their staff speak English, French, Spanish, Russian, and many other languages!

The hotel is in Plainpalais, which is a great location. There are lots of great restaurants and bars nearby. I like Wooden Hut (Thai), Rajpoute (Indian) and Spaghetti d'Oro (Italian). Les recyclables is a great bookstore-cafe nearby with free wifi. I love getting gelato at Manu or Gelatomania and going over to the skatepark at Plainpalais to watch the skaters. The river Arve nearby offers a lovely walking path for those who love the sound of rushing water. There are also great parks nearby to picnic or just lounge and read a book.

It's really easy to get to the neighbourhood of Carouge from here, and also the city centre, and the old part of the city. There are three tram lines and a few buses that stop nearby.

This hotel offers excellent value for your money!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. West facing rooms are quieter; there are lots of bars towards the east ;)

This apart-hotel is located in plainpalais which is about 15 minutes walk from the main centre and the lake. The rooms are very clean, and ours had it's own shower and sink but a shared bathroom (between three rooms) The breakfast is simple but fresh, and the lidl supermarket is only five minutes away. Overall, would stay here again..it was ideal for exploring the city and visiting the motor show at palexpo.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony are best as there is no air conditioning

This is a family run hotel with friendly staff offering clean, simple, modern, comfortable bed and breakfast type amenities at an excellent price in the centre of Geneva. The buffet breakfast is adequate and well served. The wi-fi is free and works well and the TV offers a wide range of international channels. For those looking for value rather than luxury at a central location, this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Rear facing room for particularly quiet use. A simple hotel 'fit for purpose'

I stayed at Hotel Carmen for 2 nights last week (November) and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel, room and shared bathroom were incredibly clean and well maintained. The staff were super helpful and friendly, and made me feel very welcome. The room had all the basics that are needed for a comfortable stay. I would say it is a fantastic little place to stay on a budget!

Location-wise, it is directly opposite a tram stop called Uni Mail, and it is only about a 15 minute ride (on the number 15 tram heading towards "Nations" to the city centre (Gare Cornavin)). There is also a Lidl supermarket nearby (10 mins max walk - turn right from the hotel entrance), which is a God-send in an expensive city like Geneva!

Getting to Hotel Carmen from Geneva airport is very easy too. My preferred route was to take a train from the airport to Geneva (Gare Cornavin) and then the number 15 tram to Uni Mail (not Plainpalais!) heading towards Pallettes. Overall journey took me less than 45mins.

Thanks Hotel Carmen for a wonderful stay! :)

Stayed there with wife and kid for two nights, three days. Relatively ok place, standard rooms which were clean, comfortable beds, and staff were polite and friendly.

I found the first night was fine, but for the second night the radiator was buzzing.......and couldn't be turned off......for my wife who is a deep sleeper was fine, but as I am a light sleeper it kept annoying me most of the night, which was a bit annoying.

Was also a bit strange that there was no kettle available in the room to boil water, or make some tea, which is a standard thing one would expect.
The morning continental breakfast was a joke, but then that's what a continental breakfast is.......a waste of time, would do well to feed a rabbit nevermind.....

Was good that the hotel gave us tickets for all Geneva public transport for the three days, that was a classy touch. Was a big plus as the tram and bus is very close, just around the corner, and only a few short stops to the city centre.
