This place is a delight, as is Lucca. A capital Q for Quaint with it's painted walls and décor. Our room was in the newer part and had a good size bathroom with lovely shower and a spa bath. We were on a Back Roads Tour which was very welcoming with smiles. Fabulous breakfast with a juicer for fresh fruit and vegetables including blood oranges. Breakfasts can at times be a little mundane while on a tour. This was not. The highlight while staying here though, was our dinner in a small room with the Chef looking after a small group of us. The dinner was not part of the tour, but our choice for the first of 2 nights there. This room leads out on to a cute little courtyard where we had a bottle of wine first. After telling some of our tour buddies later, how good the dinner was, we decided it was a must we dine in again on the 2nd night, with more of us. A special table was set up in a larger room, again with lots of atmosphere and friendly staff willing to do that for us. We had a wonderful evening with the Chef's delicious food. Highly recommended!!

Having decided on a week’s holiday in Lucca, we researched carefully to find the best place to stay and decided on Albergo Alle Corte Degli Angeli. We chose it because it was central, within the walls of the city, the bedrooms looked delightful on the website, and it wasn’t too big. We weren’t delighted in our choice – it was perfect.

The hotel is family-run, and this is apparent right from the start; as there is a warm and friendly atmosphere from all the staff, and the hotel runs smoothly with quiet efficiency: you feel that nothing is a problem and they want you simply to enjoy your stay with them.

We were in Bouganville (every room having the name of a flower), which was on the front of the building. It was spacious and light, with a huge bathroom, which had both shower and bath. The weather was glorious, most days exceeding 30 degrees, but the air-con kept the room cool.

The breakfasts are excellent: you can make yourself freshly-squeezed orange juice, and also vegetable juices. There is range of freshly made coffee available; and also a kettle and teapots to make fresh tea. The large honeycomb every morning comes from local bees, and there is a huge choice of food to produce a wonderful breakfast for even the fussiest of eaters.

We used the restaurant twice during our week. Although the menu is relatively small and only changes once a month, the quality of the food is exceptional. Everything is cooked to order and beautifully fresh. The evening meal, as well as breakfast can be served in the sheltered courtyard at the back of the building.

Lucca itself is a great base to see a number of places in Tuscany: Florence, Pisa, Montecatini Terme & Alto and Viareggio, to name but a few. The trains are cheap and mostly reliable – but do allow time if you want to buy your tickets from the Biglietteria, rather than from the machine. It’s a busy station and sometimes the queue is slow-moving. There are numerous good restaurants, cafes and, of course, gelateria in Lucca – around every corner.

But if you want somewhere very special, very friendly with good food and delightful rooms to experience all Lucca has to offer to stay in, go to Alle Corte Degli Angeli – you won’t be disappointed; you’ll be sorry to leave, as we were.

Grazie mille a tutti!

Our stay here was absolute perfection! The hotel is located inside the city walls and has a private secure parking lot just steps away. The location is so convenient to all the sites in Lucca. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. When I inadvertently took the room key with me after check out, they called the hotel in our next destination and arranged to have it mailed back to them for me. The breakfast was spectacular! I am well traveled and have never before seen one as lavish - baked apples, honey in the honeycomb, blood oranges with a juicer, even vegetables for those wanting to juice those. The variety of breads and cheeses was amazing. The staff served you large cups of cappuccino on request. I regret that we did not dine in the hotel restaurant. The menu each nite looked wonderful. We would see the chef/owner conversing with the diners as we passed through. We were given a suite which was just lovely. The bathroom had a large walk in shower as well as a whirlpool tub. It was immaculate. The room was very quiet and looked out over the beautiful courtyard. The cleaning staff were as friendly as the front desk staff. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It was a delightful stay.

Great hotel to visit a gorgeous city. Located in the old town, Alla Corte Degli Angeli was perfect for our 1 night stay in Lucca last August. On our way driving down to Rome from France, we just stayed one night for a quick 24 hour visit of the city. The location was perfect as it was easy to explore the town and come back and forth to the hotel on foot. While driving to the hotel was not simple because of a complex 1-way road system in the old town, everything was easy once we got there, with a parking belonging to the hotel just 50yrds from the hotel.

We stayed with our 7yr old in a junior sweet that had a sofa bed. The room was beautifully decorated. Only downside of our stay was the fact that they were renovating and started working at 9am outside our door. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Our son had somehow forgotten his pet rabbit in his bed, and the hotel very kindly mailed us his rabbit back to us free of charge. That alone was a gesture that will ensure that my next stay in Lucca will be at "Alla Corte Degli Angeli" !

We were attracted to this hotel, because many of the rooms had lovely murals painted on the wall. We enjoyed very much the landscapes carefully painted on the walls of our (standard) room. We stayed five nights. The staff is friendly and helpful. We parked in their walled-in lot across the street for an extra 15 Euros per night. It would have been very difficult to park otherwise. The hotel is in old mansion and quaint in that way. It is in the busiest, most fashionable part of the old town, but is on a quiet side street. In the morning one hears the birds chirping from the trees across the street, but also the street cleaners and garbage pickup. I have just two reservations. First, when we arrived in the room there was an overpowering smell of cleaning agents (but that dissipated over time). Second, there was not enough closet space; so we had to use our bags for storage.

Room Tip: On their website there is a picture of each room. You can request a particular room.
