Here for a conference - impressive historical surroundings & smart & efficient staff. Location very satisfactory, good selection of room sizes from main hall down to seminar rooms. So central, which is a joy. It's about 15 minutes amble from Santa Maria Novella & about 10 from Central station. If you are staying in any of the main hotels around the station, Santa Maria Novella, San Lorenzo or the Duomo you will be fine on foot. Very good ambiance - could do with a few more general seating areas although with the beautiful September weather it was fine to perch outside.

Went, wasn't open so left. No signs stating where the entrance was so ended up walking almost around the whole darn thing. Don't bother consuming unless you like disappointment. Spent a little while in the park next to it where they actually have a fountain running.

Thought there was something to do- saw great walls.
But nothing, nothing!
The only thing is the small park with the lake beside it, nice place to catch some rest.

An old fort/ fortress is what the Fortezza da Basso is. Located on Viale Filippa Strozzi, it is an interesting site to visit when you are in this part of the city.

The inside is, to quote the person on the gate "nothig much to look at", and is mostly used for conferences.
The outside will take about 5 minutes to see. Nice park nearby and brilliant ice-cream opposite.
