We stayed for a day in August of 2018. The location of the hotel was very good for us. Close to the ferry port San Basilio where we arrived, and close to the train station where we left the following day. A good 20-30 minutes walk from Rialto Bridge, St. Marks square and the other main tourist locations, but that is one of the things we appreciated since we also enjoyed seeing parts of Venice which were less "touristy". The hotel and room was beautifully decorated, the breakfast was okay and most of the staff was very nice and service minded.

We flew into Marco Polo airport direct from Toronto for one night in Venice at the start of our trip throughout Italy. It was super easy to get to this hotel.

HOW TO GET THERE: *Posting info here in case it's helpful before doing my review: at the airport, buy a ticket for the ATVO bus / Venezia express. You buy the ticket at the counters in the arrivals area (one facing the exit from baggage claim, the other to the left of the exit). The ATVO stops are located on a strip of sidewalk between two vehicle lanes outside the arrivals and baggage-claim area. Look for the No. 2 stop ("Venezia Piazzale Roma" or "Venezia Express"), which is to the left of door D as you exit the terminal. It is a large comfortable coach bus with space for bags underneath. Once you arrive at Piazzale Roma, it is a five minute walk to Hotel Olimpia (note - you do not have to cross the large Ponta della Constituzione bridge, rather walk in the opposite direction of that bridge and you will see a small side canal with the hotel on it, with a bunch of nice restaurants and only one smaller bridge that you need to cross with your luggage. It takes maybe 30 seconds to cross this bridge, so it was not a big deal at all).*

In terms of the hotel, it was spotless, had modern touches while still remaining true to a lovely classic Italian style and the breakfast in the beautiful garden was delicious. The couple in the room next to us set off the fire alarm in the middle of the night when they were smoking in their room (which they were not supposed to be doing), and the front desk was extremely apologetic and gave us the breakfast for free, which was very much appreciated. The beds were extremely comfortable and I would definitely stay here again for a short trip in Venice!

If you were going to just Venice for a longer stay (i.e. more than 2-3 nights), you might prefer to stay somewhere further into the heart of the city, but this hotel was perfect for what we needed: a clean and very comfortable stay where we could have a great night's sleep after a long flight that would allow us to see Venice without the stress of dragging our bags throughout the city or hiring an expensive water taxi or porter to assist us!

This place was first-rate. Everything was clean and bright and everyone we dealt with was extremely professional and helpful. The room was small but functional, and the air conditioning and shower worked well (though it would be nice if the shower door opened outward instead of inward). We had an excellent view from the small window, which could be opened for fresh air. The hotel is about a five-minute walk from the train station, but it is on the other side of the Grand Canal on a small side canal, so it is removed from the bustle and congestion. The airport transportation and buffet breakfast offered at the time of booking on the hotel's web site were well worth the price. The breakfast included just about everything you could imagine (eggs, meats, fruit, pastry, etc.) and could be taken either indoors or outdoors in a small courtyard or on the sidewalk next to the canal. For other meals the hotel offers a limited restaurant menu until late in the evening, and there are several moderately-priced restaurants just around the corner. It's about a twenty-minute walk to San Marco or the Rialto, but the hotel provides a detailed walking map marked with several suggested routes. You'll get lost from time to time but don't sweat it--in Venice finding your way is half the fun.

Went for a weekend and was so pleased to have booked the Hotel Olimpia. Fantastic location so close to all the main sights. Great views of the canals from the window. Well furnished and decent sized rooms. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Prices are very fair for the area.
