To be honest, we passed by this museum on our travels around town, it was not a destination. But it should be! (and it is free) The puppets are wonderful to look at. And they have little TVs where you can watch old performances, even on the Ed Sullivan show. They have daily performances, too, I think, but we missed it. Quite an extensive collection too. We sent photos to our grandchildren. A great surprise of a museum.

This museum is next to the camera di San Paolo. Go. It's free, has great puppets from 1850s to now and...has a little screen showing puppet shows including some from the old Edward Sullivan show. You won't see that everywhere!

We noticed this museum only because it was next to the Camera di San Paolo. It is a collection of the Ferrari family puppets, crafted over 4 generations since before 1880, and supplemented by puppets and marionettes from other parts of Italy.

Each puppet has been hand carved from wood, hand painted and specifically dressed. The array of different facial features, from the grotesque to the amusing, is amazing.

There are a couple of short films, including one were the family, with puppets, performed on the Ed Sullivan Show.

We ended up staying longer than expected, but this is not a museum for everyone.
