Hotel Castello is located few minutes by car from Modena centre, its a charming hotel, nothing luxurios, but enough comfortability.

Rooms are large and clean, good wi-fi connection and people with a smile. Breakfast is genuine, few things but good, capuccino is probably the best I ever had from a similar place.

Check in and out is fast and simple, well done to the owners behind this cute hotel.

Lovely and charming hotel on the outskirts of Modena but not too far. The owners are warm and helpful. There are two buildings - we stayed in the older one and it showed (eg very hard beds) - the other looks much more modern. Breakfast was delightful and all the staff were very pleasant - they made many suggestions and organized a Balsamic visit for us which was wonderful. Quiet stay.

We stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2017. We liked it so much that we decided to stay here again in August when we re-visited the region. Again we had a mostly pleasant stay. The breakfast staff at the bar were very friendly; one of them was there two years ago. The rooms were clean and spacious. The only thing was one of our neighbors had a baby child who was crying/screaming very loudly (perhaps he's sick?). I am a very light sleeper and I was concerned I might not be able to sleep if the child kept up. So I approached the staff at the reception and asked whether there were spare rooms on other floors so that we could move (our party had two rooms). The gentleman seemed annoyed by this request, but appeared less agitated when I said it'd be great if he could at least move one room. Eventually he was able to help with switching one room, which I was grateful. He also called and made a reservation for us at one of the local restaurants. I was also thankful that the crying/screaming did get a bit better as the night went on. When we checked out, the lady at the reception waived the two beers we had the previous night at the bar (she said it's a gift). That was a lovely gesture. All in all, it was again a great experience.

While not in the center of Modena, it is a fairly quick and easy drive to get there. The benefits of not being in a hotel in the center are: very large room size and spacious grounds. This was helpful to us since we were traveling with our daughter and dog.
A few days before our reservation I panicked when I realized that I had mistakenly reserved for the wrong night and it was a non-refundable, prepaid reservation. I emailed the hotel and got a quick and friendly response back in which they didn’t hesitate to change the night of my reservation with no penalty. The friendly service continued during our stay and they even offered to send us away with a bag full of cherries when they saw how much we had enjoyed them at breakfast!

We booked the Hotel Castello on night 2 of our 14 day visit to Italy and found the staff to be distant and unfriendly. We didn't require alot of attention, but had a question the first day---is there any ice available? I walked over to the front desk to ask about the ice and was surprised to receive a flat no as an answer. I think we are drawn to smaller hotels as they are normally warm and engaging. You won't find that here.
