it's over an hour's walk from the city centre, located along a big road that crosses through Modena (Via Emilia Est). There is lots of free parking and the hotel is just tucked away behind this big road. There were several local celebrieties staying at the hotel during our stay. The hotel looks a little bit run down, it is not in bad shape but overall needs a bit of refurbishment. The reception service was always available. The room was good, spacious and with everything we needed, from slippers to TV, airco and coffee and tea making facilities (not standard in Italy). The bed was comfortable and there was enough cupboard space. The bathroom was spacious, we had a bath and a shower in the bath. The shower kept changing temperature for the whole week, it was very uncomfortable. The toiletries were basic but fine. One day we didn't get new loo roll and we had to use our own tissues. this has never happened to me before anywhere else and found it too embarrassing to inform the hotel staff. Breakwast was very nice and staff very friendly and courteous. A lot of items, the continental ones were the best, lots of cakes etc. however, they also had savoury options and the quality was good. The fruit was lovely and fresh and tasty. Check-in and out was rater quick and straightforward. The hotel advertised a service to borrow or rent their bikes. they had two, but unfortunately both were not in a good enough condition to be used (one flat tire and the other one the pedal came off straight after I left the hotel). Staff was very friendly and apologetic and running around to repair it, but I didn't want to risk being stuck somewhere with a broken bike. This was a shame, because the hotel is so far out of the centre that the only way to get around really was by car. However, given the limited options of good hotels in Modena I may stay here again as overall it was not bad.
