...and take it all in. It’s breathtaking. Also, the little gift shops have some great selections, if you’re in a hurry to buy something. Stroll, & take your time with snapshots of this experience.
Tip: Being there for the sunset was ethereal. I highly recommend it.

The view of the Basilica was obstructed when we went in August 2017 by a crane, doing some sort of repair works, which was a bit of a shame but couldn’t be helped.
The tiles are beautifully laid, and the centre obelisk is definitely impressive to stand next to. Make sure to not keep your eyes up all the time as there are a number of beautiful carved plaques in the floor by some wonderful artists from days gone including Bernini (who was also the architect behind the whole square).
The square itself only has shade right around the edges, so in summer make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and maybe bring your own umbrella for some shade, especially if you want to line up to enter the Basilica.

This large space is made majestic by the central obelisk and the statues done by Bernini and the circular columns. Without the crowds, I feel I may even be able to meditate here.
