Don't miss this. I took the 3 1/2 hour tour from below ground to the 5th level, which has only been accessible for the last year. My legs were sore the next day but it was worth it!

Pay 5 euro per person for a tour, and go at about 4 pm to avoid the crowds. The ticket is valid for one visit each over 2 days to colosseum, roman fort and palatine hill. You can't miss this if you visit Rome

It might be just me, but I believe Colosseum is over-hyped. Or maybe I had too much expectations playing Sid Meyers Civilisation series too much ;)

Colosseum iš basically a glorified ancient slaughterhouse for entertainment.
I must admit, it's an amazing piece of architecture and a monument to human persistance. Yet I found the ticket line too long and the inside - just a mere "OK".

Imgo, it's way overpriced compared to what you get once inside. And you can find so much more (and older) ruins all around.

Just walked around the outside since it was a mob scene. Still you can feel the history and without the cost or time commitment.

Despite the crowds, I loved the Colosseum! We joined a small group and our guide was full of interesting facts about its history. If you like history, this is well worth a visit.
