It is easy to walk past this cathedral when walking down Corsa Italia. the frontage is hidden away and the gate can only be seen when walking up from the parallel road. It is closed on a Monday and we did literally walk past it.
WHen you walk into the courtyard the front of the cathedral can be seen and to be fair, looks like quite a few of the other churches in Sorrento. buty when you walk in, it is a different matter. The paintings on teh ceiling are amazing and the altar id=s exceptional.

Visited the Sorrento Cathedral and found it to be stunning. It has wonderful frescoes and a dramatic altar with a crucifixion. Located on the Corso Italia in the heart of Sorrento. Well worth the visit.

The exterior is rather modest, but the glories are inside. On a recent Adriatic cruise we were guided through many a church, but this one we found on our own and it was the most beautiful of the bunch. The marble is stunning enough, but then it is inlaid with geometric floral patterns. The Stations of the Cross are marquetry wood, intricately pieced. Then there is the over-the-top Nativity, just to the left when you enter the rear of the church, busting with many figures in assorted poses.

What a beautiful place! From the outside the building does not look anything special but once inside, it is so peaceful. It is highly decorated and very ornate - don’t forget to look up too! Well worth a visit.
