Remodeled villa with loads of charm and possibly the best views of Naples bay and Mt. Vesuvius. We stayed in Room 18, which had an enormous balcony with lounge chairs and an umbrella table perfect for sipping wine at sunset (or sunrise if you are so inclined). The hotel has a small private beach reached by stairs and an elevator but like much of the coast, it is very rocky so bring water shoes or sandals. Downtown Sorrento is a pleasant 10 minute walk. Its a smallish hotel but with a generous breakfast buffet. you can ignore Rick Steve's comment about indifferent service; the staff was quite pleasant and helpful.

Room tip: I understand that not all the rooms enjoy the same view so you may want to confirm the view when you book. The mattresses weren't the best but not a problem. We would stay here again without hesitation.

La Tonnarella is a lovely hotel with a character all of its own.
It sits on a hill overlooking the Bay of Naples and the views are sublime.
We had a room with an enormous balcony which was very welcoming after the walk back up the hill to the hotel.
However, it is the amazing staff who make this hotel so special.
I was taken ill during my stay, and two members of staff took my wife and myself to the local hospital in their car, and stayed with my wife whilst I was treated, over a period of several hours - we simply can't thank them enough.
We sincerely hope to return to Sorrento and would not consider staying anywhere else.

Room tip: Make sure you book a sea view

We stayed in a terrace view room (3). Huge terrace, epic views over Vesuvius, Naples and Sorrento. The room itself was small but adequate given the size of the terrace. Initially we got room 7 which was a dungeon without Windows and swiftly upgraded to ocean views. MAKE SURE YOU GET OCEAN VIEWS!

Breakfast and coffee were excellent, plenty of variety, good espresso and lots of little bars and cakes to save for later on :)

The walk to town was 15minutes. This did get a little annoying as I read the other reviews saying it was a nice stroll, I am an active person and wasn't convinced. If you want to leave the hotel numerous times a day as we did it got very repetitive.

The private beach was a let down. Had to pay for towels (2euro) chairs and umbrella (11euro) even when staying there - felt like extortion and the beach wasn't even that nice.

Overall, good hotel if you get views, enjoy the breakfast and don't mind walking to town.
