From the friendly welcome to the time to say ciao, we loved our stay. Fabulous location in the true heart of Matera's Sassi area. Spectacular views and lovely room in a cave. Super yummy breakfast and happy staff. A unique and wonderful experience.

Many of the rooms in this hotel are fairly dirty and filled with run-down furniture and uncomfortable beds. Tilework in our tiny bathroom was decaying.

Internet service was incredibly unreliable and a major complaint of many others. One day during our stay it rained hard and it would have been incredibly useful to have even a slow reliable wifi signal to plan next phases of our trip. Here we were regularly unable to even obtain a connection.

Breakfast was diverse and plentiful, staff was friendly and helpful, and the setting is magical. A sign or two for those arriving from below would ease arrival.

We stayed at the Sassi Hotel yesterday for 2 nights.Hotel is in unique setting.Unfortunately the room we were escorted to was a fair distance from the main hotel -it was well appointed but had no real light and no view apart from a derelict back yard.Other people on our trip had a mixture of rooms and size as a couple we had small 2 bedded room while other single travellers had spacious rooms with lots of beds.
Breakfast was varied and good quality so great setting but really disappointed by the room which seems to have been rented from another company.

Room tip: Ask for room near the hotel and a view as if you get one would be spectacular

It was a very good surprise to discover this place in Matera... This hotel proposes rooms with a very nice terrace with a great view over the Sassi, typical construction carved in the basaltic rocks...
The room very simple but very well furnished
Excellent breakfast with good and fresh ingredients
Improvement suggestions: better WiFi (didn’t work well)

It is nothing fancy but a solid place to stay. The price could perhaps be lower given that there is nothing fancy about this hotel. On the bright side, the breakfast was very well done. The location is also very good. However, one major complaint: Our room smelled like cleaning solution the whole time. I guess the silver lining to this complaint is that the room was indeed clean. Just would have been better if cleaning solution was diluted more. Also, the steps were wet from where the cleaning solution had been tossed. Given the humidity of the weekend, the steps never dried. The room was more than big enough and all employees were courteous.

Room tip: The Junior Suite is too large for two persons. Better to get the single rooms.
