Our hotel recommended Santa Ignoranza for local cuisine and boy were they right! We walked into the restaurant in a modern building buried in an unlikely-looking industrial zone but were immediately struck by the stylish decor, the friendly service, even the alternative rock playing on the sound system.
Our waiter, who spoke quite adequate English, suggested the weekday special menu for the princely sum of 13€. Since it included the arrosticini (known as arostelli in Abruzzese dialect) we were seeking, we went for it, not really knowing what some of the other local specialities like pizz'onta, ciaudella, and pipindune e ove were. Not to worry, they were all made with fresh ingredients, nicely prepared, and delicious! The arrosticini were even better than I remembered from my time spent in Abruzzo many moons ago -- nicely seasoned and grilled to perfection.
The Montepulciano D'Abruzzo house red wine was a very decent and quaffable wine made in a light, modern style which reminded us of a good Beaujolais. Everything was included in the menu price, nothing whatsoever added, and they happily accepted our American Express.
Although it's probably not fair to compare Pescara with more-touristic parts of Italy, this was by far the best quality/price meal we had this vacation. So if you find yourself over here, do yourself a favor and check out Santa Ignoranza!
