Easy to get to, easy to buy tickets online so as not to wait on line, filled with incredible art and extensive collections of Goya and Velazquez amongst other European masters. A must see when visiting Madrid.

Huge collection of art particularly paintings within an historic building. Worth doing a guided tour to gain insight to Spanish painters, their works, contemporaries and influences

Firstly don't queue to buy your ticket. Either get them in advance online or at the little kiosk opposite the museum to go in the following day(though concessions are not available and can't get tickets for same day entry), simply because the queue is so long-have no idea how long some people may have been in the queue. Get your tickets in advance and go to the door to the left and you're straight through. The little pamphlet offered in the lobby was invaluable as there is so much to see but the pamphlet tells you where the most famous paintings are and as the rooms are not well labelled it is easy to go back and forth when you don't need to.
Restaurant ok, gift shop has some nice things but as always is expensive. I spent 3 hours there and was exhausted as there is lot of walking and stairs involved.Could easily spend more time there.

Not only is the collection vast, the majority of the paintings have been restored to pristine conditions. The audio guide was excellent. Purchase your ticket in advance and avoid the huge lines.

There are thousand of reviews so, I will just provide other points of view: access and food.
The line of people you normally find is to get a ticket. Get it online and you go straight to the ticket booth, show what you printed on the internet and they will give you a ticket/s. When exiting, go right and you will see the entrance for visitors.
We spend there almost 4 hours but had a break for lunch.
A big salad, a dish of good paella (I’m Spaniard and I know what I eat), fruit salad and two drinks were 30e. Expensive but not very expensive. There are a few tapas a plate of the day. Type of salads can be chosen and also sandwiches can be found for cheaper budgets.
