Having stepped off of the aircraft and gone outside the terminal, we were greeted by Tony, a taxi driver. He knew everything there was to know about Gibraltar. In fairness it is only 4 sq miles in size but there are so many things to see and do.On our travels we had the good fortune to speak to more Taxi Drivers who were the same knowledgeable, genuinly good people. They cater for most size of parties and offer varying tours. Cost is what I would call average but if you need a Taxi there are plenty to assist you. If they do not have the answer to your question regarding the Rock, its history and its attractions, then no one will.
We walked across the border to Gibralter and we were greeted by a friendly driver who gave us the price and information about the taxi tour/drive. At first we thought it was expensive but after adding up how much it would cost to visit the attractions, we realised it worked out to be about the same, and not to mention how long it would take to go between the attractions. The eight of us, two families big grown up children, had an amazing time. John our driver was extremely knowledgeable and told us facts about Gibralter that we wouldn’t have known otherwise, he was also very funny which added to the whole trip.
I would recommend a taxi trip around the rock, it is more than just a drive around.
although initially you think the cost is pricey it was well worth it in the end. you get allocated a taxi and guide and depending on the size of your group you may need to share your taxi, this was not a problem. the guide we had was called Douglas and he was very informative about the area and full of little stories and was very welcoming of the tourists to Gibraltar. the tour lasts just under 2 hours and you get to visit caves and tunnels as well as the famous monkeys. You can then spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace.
We had a great guide who was very informative about the history of Gibraltar and great with the macaques. We all loved every minute of the tour - money well spent.
The tour offered by these guys gets you great local info from friendly and helpful drivers. Price for the tour includes entrance to caves etc.
The only way to the top of the rock without having to walk uphill at 30c.
Excellent value for money.
We arrived at the cable car from a cruise ship. As expected there was a massive queue in scorching heat. Decided to try for a taxi. Brilliant move. We got to go to the caves and the rock. The taxi driver was knowledgeable and precise with instructions on where and when to meet him. I would thoroughly recommend taking the taxi rather than wait for the cable car. I also was very thankful I wasn't driving!!
