Albayzin is simply the old quarter of the city, with a labyrinth of narrow streets, containing shops that are nice to browse, and a large choice of eating places. Basically, head for Mirador de San Nicolas (where you get the best views of the Alhambra), then follow your nose. The streets are sometimes a little steep, but no problem for anybody without mobility issues.

During our Granada trip, we ambled downhill through the quaint, cobbled narrow streets of Albayzin, the old Moorish neighborhood. It made for an interesting walk through so many picturesque shops, restaurants and tapas bars - window shopping and crowd-gazing.

Well worth a walk-through if you have some time when in Granada.

I did this solo. It was a little funny trying to find the right path, but my suggest it to just put it in your google maps and follow it. You will practically be close to Sacramonte - which is the gypsy village. Well worth the trip.

One evening in the albayxin for a flamenco show, really looking forward to it, the dancer came on , I was expecting the stereo typical Spanish flamenco dancer, but she was Japanese,, so slightly disappointed at the start, but she was fantastic.

Wandering the labyrinth of narrow streets is a pleasure. Keep an eye out for the Carmens which are enclosed gardens. The barrio is still very much a residential area and consequently there are many small bars, shops and restaurants. There are some fantastic views of the Alhambra across the Darro valley, especially from Plaza San Nicolas. Just wander and explore this fantastic barrio.
