This review is about the Bar & Grill, within the delicatessen shop. There is a bar and a small restaurant adjacent to the shop. They serve mainly seafood and fish (oysters, lobster, caviar etc).

This is a fun place to see and to be seen after a nice shopping tour (the delicatessen shop is fantastic).

Food is good, the choice is relatively limited. I had the salmon with spinach salad, really delicious. The buttermilk cream as dessert was also very good. Small wine list.

Service: some staff are friendly and attentive, some less. Overall ok.

Prices are not low but ok for what you get.

Definitely a place I can recommend for a nice quick lunch!

This is a superb food shop that reminds me of Fortnums in London. The restaurant is very refined but not pompous. Great staff and the cakes and coffee are superb

Great to return to this wonderful traditional cafe which is always busy. You may need to be patient and queue but it will be worth the wait!
Menu includes a range of different types of quality teas and coffee. Hot chocolate and wine also available. They have an interesting range of cakes which are very tempting.
Service is very professional and all the products are high quality.
There is a great shop downstairs where you could spend a fortune on chocolate, liqueurs, cheese etc
Highly recommend!

Thank 8Liz

My wife and I spent our last evening in Germany at the Dallmayr, just a few days before Christmas 2016. We made reservations about 2 months in advance and as is customary for restaurants of this standard, credit card details were taken at the time of reservation.

We were certainly looking forward to our dinner at the Dallmayr, having read the numerous reviews on the food and the experience. We were staying at the Cortiina Hotel in the Old Town and this was a short 10 minute walk to the Dallmayr. The restaurant is located on the upper floor of the delicatessan which is opened in the day so access to the restaurant is only possible through the pressing of a doorbell at the side of the main entrance of the delicatessan. This was a nice touch to a great dinner experience.

Upon working our way up the flight of stairs, our coats were taken and we were promptly seated in the main dining room. The ambience was elegant and classic - if not more traditional than other more modern/ contemporary fine dining restaurants.

My wife and I ordered the 6 course (or 7 course, I can't recall) and we were allowed to mix and replace certain dishes from the other menu on offer so as to enjoy maximum variety. In December, they had a special menu which featured the Chef's signature dishes from the previous years and this was certainly welcomed given that this was our first at the Dallmayr.

Service was very attentive but not intrusive. English was widely spoken and the explanations on the dishes were clear and detailed. The manager, Barbara Engelbrecht, was very professional and made the effort to engage with diners. Given that this was a fine dining experience, be prepared to enjoy a slow but very fulfilling experience - we were there at 7.30pm and didn't leave till close to 11.30pm. We certainly did not feel rushed and the intervals between the dishes were just about right.

As expected of a 2 michelin star, the food was top-notch excellent and the closing touch of a chocolate tray was also a very nice end to a fantastic meal. Presentation of the food was 5-stars and it clearly demonstrated the effort and dedication of the Chef and his team. As they were aware that we were celebrating our anniversary, they also added in the words Happy Anniversary on the desserts that we ordered.

The sommelier was also very knowledgeable and when we asked for a German wine, he chose a very good Riesling which wasn't the most expensive on the wine list (in fact, it was very moderately priced).

All in all, this was an excellent fine dining experience to end our visit to Germany. It certainly wasn't cheap by any standards but the quality of the food, the ambience, the experience and the service certainly made up for it.
