We picked the Wank to ride up on a day that the Zugspitze was fogged in. We took the cable car up. 21€ per person for the ride round trip. From the top station , there is a short hike to the summit, at which time you can reward yourself with zuppe, bier and wurst at the mountain top restaurant. The views of the valley below are stunning.
Having looked at other reviews, we all decided to spend our day on this mountain and had a great trip. Yes, the name is very amusing for an English speaker (and many jokes ensued) but it is also a very pretty place, a really enjoyable cablecar ride and stunning views at the top of the town of Garmisch but also almost 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains.
Good parking at the bottom, very good value for money, highly recommended!
Just 1 hr by car from Munich, beautiful Wank mountain is the perfect one day hike plan. Let the cow bells and the astonishing views accompany you along the way to the summit. If you are too tired, you can take the gondola up in the middle of the mountain. There's two restaurants at the top for a beer and food. Make sure you bring appropriate clothes.
The name gave us all a giggle but the view was spectacular! The fresh air, cows and treking opportunities were fantastic and the cable car ride very enjoyable.
Visited on a beautiful summers day with my Bavarian host Sabine. Cable car to the top station whee we had a short walk and a cappuccino on the terrace before coming down. Views for miles across the valley toward the Zugspitze are as spectacular in summer as they are in the winter. Wonderful.
This unfortunately named mountain has great views over the towns of Garmish and Partenkirchen as well as across at the much higher Alps. There are plenty of options for hiking if you fancy it but with young children we took the cable car up and back.
