I am sure when this is read by the lady on Reception who helped me she will completely understand. I would like the manager to read this and understand how unusual / bizarre the hotel's policy on checking out is.
Upon check-in at about 10pm we were informed they needed to put a £100 charge on our card because we paid through Hotels.com (or Expedia, I cant remember now) and they didn't have our card details on file so this was 'just in case'. However it couldnt be a credit card, luckily we did have a debit on us. This was plain strange and inconvenient. it was explained it was just a 'hold' on the money and it would be released on check-out if all was okay with the room. FINE, we had to do it as were tired and wanted to get to the room.
During check-out the same lady was ready to release the money but first.... had to GO TO THE ROOM TO CHECK IT. I have never ever experienced such a thing. The poor lady had to walk down to the room (it was in another building across the road) in the heat whilst another person waited in the reception. God knows what this is like during a busy checkout. I absolutely assured her there was no need, I have never smoked and would always leave a hotel room as one would expect! The transaction took place which was literally one penny, which meant we were refunded an actual single penny.

Management - please don't put your guests through this. If you have had a bad experience in the past you shouldn't make your new guests pay for this. If you don't like or trust hotels.com / expedia then don't use it!

Secondly, the room was dated and made me feel very uncomfortable, it was far too hot and felt so musty and air-less.

All very strange..

I stayed for one night with my Mum. Our room decor, the furniture & facilities e.g. shower & hairdryer were very dated. We didn’t feel they were consistent with what we expected from looking at the website.
We had several issues with breakfast in the morning. The service was very slow, as the dining room was packed and there were only two waitresses serving. They were both harassed, confused and making mistakes. We had items missing from our meals & didn’t get what we requested.
I complained at the time and requested a refund. I was spoken to like trash by one particular staff member, argued with and accused of lying. I notice from some other reviews that similar things have happened to other guests.
I was told no one there could authorise a refund, so I should complain to the manager by email. I did, but my refund request was refused because she chose to side with her rude, dishonest staff member over me. The issues apparently, were my fault.
I said I intended to post negative reviews & was advised that it was my prerogative to do so. I am sure the manager will reply to this, no doubt blaming me once again, but I advise you to take any response with a pinch of salt. I would also strongly advise choosing somewhere else to stay if you’re in Maidstone.

Dear Claireylou,

If you did read other reviews, you would have read praises for our staff and cleanliness of the hotel.

You are absolutely right, we don't issue refunds if food has been eaten and there was nothing left for us to assess the situation. should you stay again and have reservations about food order, please let us know before you eat it so we can give a refund or serve another portion to your liking.

Like anyone or any establishment, will not deal with threat as it is not an option to address issues.

We stayed at the hotel for a family party that was held in the hotel. From the moment we spoke to them to book a room it has been wonderful. The hotel itself is a little tired but the staff make up for it with their 'can do' attitude to everything. Chantelle was the event planner who looked after us and she was utterly amazing, cannot praise her enough, going above and beyond to make our party the success it was. Emma on reception gave a warm welcome making the hotel feel homely and again was on hand to help when we needed her assistance. The bedroom was big, even with an extra bed in it and the bathroom was spotless. The food for the party was superb and the breakfast offering was good as well. For a 3 star hotel it is very good but it's the staff that make this place great.

Booked private room for daughters 21st and 3 course meal for 30 guests. It was a lovely afternoon. Everyone enjoyed the food. The staff and service were excellent and catered for our every need. We were not rushed to leave and enjoyed being out in the gardens too. Would definitely book again for another occasion. Thank you for a lovely time.
