This was our first visit to Dublin Zoo. We have a wee one and decided to go here rather than Belfast Zoo as Dublin Zoo is flat, which would making pushing a buggy easier. The road from Belfast is now great as it’s duel carriageway/motorway the whole way to Dublin from Lisburn.

Parking in Phoenix Park was a nightmare as there was an Ed Sheehan concert on and there was none of the usual spots to park. Thanks to a kind Park Warden that directed us to a ‘secret’ parking spot!!

We had pre booked online and I was glad we did as there was a long queue at the pay on the day window but none at the pre booked window.

We took a picnic with us and found a place with loads of picnic tables. There was a huge variety of animals on display and we and our two year old thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

The weather was fantastic which helped. We would highly recommend a visit !!

Been to a few Zoo’s and this one beats the rest. For a start it’s located in such a lovely park which you can explore before or after your visit to the zoo. The price for visiting the zoo is very reasonable. Once inside looking at the map you see it’s one big loop round it most people choose to go left as it’s number one on the map but I suppose you could go anyway. There is plenty of various animals from all over the world in the zoo and plenty of information such as where they came from, diet and how endangered they are. Regular shows and talks about animals run daily we watched the sea lion show well worth it. Lots of toilet facilities and food and snack options dotted around the park too which you don’t often get, the meerkat restaurant was reasonable with lots of choices. Very well kept grounds and spotlessly clean plenty of bins around so no excuse for dropping rubbish.
Great day for all ages would definitely visit again

What a place! Great amenity in the Phoenix Park/Dublin City. Animals and enclosures very impressive! Huge amount of work on Conservation and Animal Care! Plenty of picnic areas dotted around for those leisurely lunches/snack breaks if you bring your own. If you’ve small kids great areas for play, shade in hot weather, toilets, baby changing etc. Toilets spotless. Chilled water machine around the place to refill your water bottle. Lush planting and lay out ensures a leisure wander around a large site, missing nothing as you go! Can’t recommend highly!

It’s a wonderful set up based around two very large lakes. It has quite a few different animals/species on view in enclosures. The various trees and plants within the zoo are amazing and we really loved the Kaziranga Forest trail to the Elephants. There are plenty of places to stop and rest if required with free water points to fill your water bottles up which is a nice touch and saves you having to pay for it which we have seen in most zoos.
The zoo was very clean and tidy which was really great to see.
Prices in all the shops are average, for example a Costa is the same price as what you would pay in a cafe in town. We had breakfast which cost us 6.50 euros, our hotel wanted 15.50 . We walked at an average pace and saw everything and it took us 4 hours to complete the whole zoo. There are talks on at various times through out the day which are given by various keepers, these are displayed on your guide/map which you are given with your tickets. We did not see any of these.
Negative/enhancement points - parking is a big one. The zoo does NOT have its own car park so if you are going by car ensure you look for somewhere to park beforehand. We managed to find a place that was a 5 minute walk away. You can walk or get a bus to the zoo but depending on where you are staying will depend on how long it takes to get there and back. Again, ask or check up before you venture to the place. 2. The shop at the zoo did not sell any clothing for adults, we asked and a member of staff looked on line before telling us there was nothing in stock . Missing a trick there I think.
At many zoos today you can buy food to feed the animals. This not only cuts the cost down to the zoo, but it gets people more involved with the animals which is a nice touch. Dublin zoo does not do this . During our 4 hr trip, we never saw a single staff member at, or in, any enclosure. So if we had any questions at all about any animal etc...tuff. Again, in the many zoos we have visited, this is a nice touch.
We love zoos and have been to many in the world, so for us the visit was brilliant because of the positive points above. The negative ones are points we think would enhance the zoo. If you love animals, you must see this place
