On our third attempt at eating in this wonderful restaurant we actually got in! We arrived early and were the first in meaning we could choose where we sat. You can't book at this restaurant, it is very much turn up and see if there is space.

All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious with a good variety. It was worth the wait and we are so pleased to have been able to visit before we left Fort William.

Visited The Geographer on a Wednesday evening in August. Arrived after 7pm but only had to wait 15 - 20 mins before a table was available. As soon as we entered, my Wife and I commented on the friendly 'buzz'in the restaurant and the interesting and quirky decor. Our server was really friendly and attentive and made sure our order was taken promptly and that drinks continued to arrive at our table whenever needed. The good was great - Calimari followed by the amazing Chicken Curry and a hearty Geographer Burger with fries. The owner even took time on a busy night to stop and chat - and really made us feel that our custom was appreciated. Will definitely return to The Geographer on our next visit to Fort William.

Such a shame, the restaurant, atmosphere and food looked amazing but the front of house was just rude. On arrival at our hotel in Fort William The Geographer was recommended to us and we were told to give them a call. I called up and was told that they didn’t take bookings it was on a first come first served basis. I enquired about how busy the restaurant currently was and received the reply “madam it’s the middle of August.” Despite the curt response we ventured down the high street to queue outside. The family in front of us in the queue told us that we should probably just pop in and let the guy know we were a family of four, so they were aware. As we had watched them go in and come back out to join the queue, we did the same. The same man (front of house) told me, “he didn’t have time to come out and check the queue every 5 minutes and that he would let us know when a space became available”. Again very abrupt. We never asked him to come and check the queue! We completely understand that hospitality is under intense pressure at the moment but both my husband and I felt a bit of courtesy to potential customers wouldn’t go amiss so we moved onto somewhere else. Like we said such a shame as the reviews here are outstanding.

Dear E Fisher

Thank you for taking a moment, from what appears to be a very exciting and fulfilling holiday you are enjoying, to write a review about a restaurant you never bothered to wait 10 minutes to actually dine in.

To save you from further stress, or going home with no stories to share, I have found a minute during our busiest and most demanding time to compile a list of attractions that might interest you - just remember to leave us a review of them.

BEN NEVIS (beware of long lines of people)

JACOBITE STEAM TRAIN (watch those queues and stressed staff)

GLEN FINNIN VIADUCT (very busy - might not get the photo location you want)

WEST HIGHLAND MUSEUM (queues again)

FORT WILLIAM HIGH STREET (arrggg, the people!)

EVERY BAR, RESTAURANT AND HOTEL IN THE HIGHLANDS (Best you just go home now)

Anyhoo, patience is a ... you know the rest.

Happy holidays

Eventually managed to get a table after 5 days of trying.. no bookings taken. We got there before opening and were waiting when the doors opened! Lovely feel inside, nice decor and comfortable. All of our food was great.. mussels, lobster and venison stew.. also two really nice kids meals. One of our top 3 places in Fort William. I’m glad we stood outside waiting for it to open!

Had to queue for about half an hour but the wait was worth it. It seems most restaurants in Fort William do not take bookings. I had 3 courses and they all were excellent. Staff were all pleasant and efficient.
