Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

The castle has a great amount of history and plan at least an hour if you want to visit every segment of the castle. We were amazed by the view from the castle walls over Edinburugh. Be aware that it can get very busy so be at leat 15min early for your guided tour. The gift shops within the castle have great memorabilia.

Absolutely loved Edinburgh and the Castle is it's crowning glory. So much history, incredibly interesting. We didn't even mind the gift shops, especially the one where we bought some lovely whiskey liquer. The views at night from the castle are amazing.

It is definitely worth the climb you have to make to climb to the castle. The inclines are very steep. There are some elevators but you have to ask for the use of the Lift. The crown jewels are worth seeing, the views are outstanding. There is a great deal of Scottish history depicted through out the castle and several gift shops on the grounds.

It's Edinburgh Castle - what more to say! It's amazing to hear the history and the views are incredible. If you are in Edinburgh, you have to go the castle. Beware of peak times.

A must see in Edinburgh. Very busy, but well staffed and interesting historical displays. Most are surprised to learn it was a military facility that is still in use.
