Lovely Hotel with Grand Entrance lobby and staircase, very friendly staff,
Public areas are from a Grand Bygone Era, we prefer the Elegance of this hotel compared to glass and steel hotels
Very good location for exploring Cardiff
Excellent cooked breakfast with beautiful bacon
Spacious dining area
Our room 202 was very spacious, note twin rooms have standard size singles
Comfy beds, lovely big bath towels

Dear anna,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We do have a long history in Cardiff and I would personally agree with you, when I travel I do also prefer the history of a hotel to some of the more modern buildings, as nice as some are.

We have a fab location for exploring Cardiff and I hope you managed to see as much as you wished to, if not, I look forward to welcoming you back again.

Kind Regards

Afternoon tea should be an elegant and decadent affair but tea at this hotel lacks sophistication. Teapots and crockery should be fine bone china, not rather tatty looking metal teapots and ordinary chinaware. There was no tablecloth and the bread, jam and pastry cases were shop bought rather than homemade. The fillings were rather unimaginative, plain cheese, no tomato, cucumber or pickle. The smoked salmon was a pâté type rather than actual slices of salmon. The fruit in the tartlet was frozen rather than fresh. Finally, when the waiter refreshed the teapots and brought more coffee he left all the used crockery and cutlery despite the fact that we had clearly finished. It's a pet hate of mine, to sit with dirty plates and leftovers still on the table. Yes, it's cheap - £12.50 but frankly, it's not worth more. The scones were plain and quite flat and looked like little bread rolls. Highlights were, the carrot cake and the mini victoria sponges. Come on Angel chefs, you should be able to do a lot better than this.

Dear disarminglycharming

I am sorry you found the afternoon tea to be a disappointment. As much as we would love to make our own bread and jam, as well other treats this isn't possible for us currently. I believe we price our Afternoon Tea to reflect the offering and surroundings.

Kind Regards

Came to this hotel for the Speedway GP with my husband. Staff were very friendly on arrival.
We were in a Deluxe Double which had great views overlooking the castle. It was a fair size room, the only complaint would be the bed. The mattress was sagging in the middle.
Cleanliness of the room was great. Staff in the lounge/bar were helpful and friendly.
Great selection for breakfast and again great staff especially Christina. Fantastic location for the town centre and principality stadium.

Great location overlooking the Castle and close to shops, restaurants and transport. On a busy road but there was no traffic noise in the room. There was no Wifi at all in our room and we tried several times both night and morning to log in and told reception that we had no internet. Mostly the Wifi was not found at all by any device but on the odd occasion it appeared for a few seconds. I suspect that the building needs more up to date equipment. There was only one towel in the bathroom and then we found another one hiding in a wardrobe. The room was clean enough but all the flooring and fittings were very old and shabby and the shower was difficult to use as the shower curtain kept wanting to join in.

Room tip: we were right at the back so if you need wifi get a room closer to the front

Dear ThirroulAnnette,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the Angel. I am sorry that aspects of your stay where disappointing. Usually our Wifi is pretty good, although on occasion it can have a bit of a fight with the Cardiff Street Wifi. However you should have been able to gain access to one or the other.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Cardiff.

Fantastic location for cardif centre and opposite the castle for New Years Eve celebrations.

Also ideal for the millenium stadium and close to The Bay.

Friendly welcome, room comfortable and well supplied. Our room had no fridge tho.
