Excellent lunch, quality roasts and veg. Very popular so you need to book ahead. This place is popular with locals - always a good sign! Reasonably priced. Friendly staff.

We ate there for lunch on a Wednesday. I had the tower burger excellent. British beef has improved so much over the years. My partner had the salmon appetizer. They were both very good and we also had a couple beers. Typical English pricing and nothing expensive. Large portions which I have come to expect since coming to England.

Went to the Tavern after looking at Trip Advisor reviews and it really lived up to my expectations. Very old but clean interior full of charm.
I had (the last portion as it happened) of the home made steak and ale pie and it was excellent. Really tender and tasty meat and a large jug of very good gravy to go with the mashed potato and vegetables.
The staff were all very efficient and pleasant and did a great job steering a customer who'd had a bit too much to drink to a safe place!
Thoroughly recommend for a tasty meal in a traditional wood beamed ale house setting

We managed to get a reservation for 12 persons a day in advance and what a nice experience it was! The tavern is very cozy and neatly decorated. You almost feel you are entering someone's home. The kitchen managed to serve us all our main dishes at the same time well heated and it didn't stand back from a fine dining experience. Thanks to the chefs and a lovely waitress for making our stay a wonderful one!!

The menu selection was great. Well presented tasty food. The baked Camembert was great.

Would recommend based on food. Ideally located in the town centre.

My only comment would be that we weren’t able to get coffee at the end of the meal as the chef had gone home. It wasn’t late!
