I am always a bit apprehensive about EasyHotel as they are really the bargain basement of hotels, but this one was a generally positive one. I stayed twice in a week so had the chance to experience two different rooms. The location is decent enough, the bed was comfortable too. I had paid the slight premium for a window (was only £1 extra for my stay) which was worthwhile.
However, I had a different room experience on the two stays – the first stay I had a good room on the 3rd floor, with some good space to manoeuvre, multiple plugs and a side table, plus proper window and curtains. My second stay I instead had a top floor room, with a sloped roof and skylight with a slightly poor window blind, no side table and barely any floor space. Whilst the second stay cost me about £3 less, given I had booked the exact same room type this did not seem fair as the second room was worse.
The rooms were clean, but maintenance needed some improvement – the sockets were damaged and the toilet seat loose in my first room, and in the second room the drain was semi-blocked. I also had issues with the air con system and controls (needed due to the old building making it very hot otherwise), and I had no TV remote initially (resolved once I asked). I do not mind pointing out...I am always a bit apprehensive about EasyHotel as they are really the bargain basement of hotels, but this one was a generally positive one. I also get that it is a budget hotel and they want to upsell to you, but the checkout at 10am is too early especially given bag storage costs money. Even going to 10.30 or 11am would make a big difference and time to go and get breakfast. There as there is no kettle, something basic like a free microwave/hot water at reception would be a small cheap compromise as even a hostel provides features like this.
Overall, it’s a decent place for a few nights at the right price – for me around £30, great for the city centre, clean, quiet and comfortable enough. But the rates rocket especially on weekends and if it was higher I'd go elsewhere, Newcastle is pretty well connected so head further out if needed.More
