What a fantastic hotel! The Riverview Room was spectacular with views of the river and bridges on fireworks night! The most comfortable pillows I’ve ever slept on and the friendliest staff ever. Our little dog was welcomed with open arms and even had breakfast with us in Ginos! We will be visiting again and seriously considering booking to stay here for our wedding next October, we will be requesting the same room again for each of our birthdays in between. Thanks so much Innside!

We arrived at the hotel around 1:30pm & were lucky to bag a car parking space. £15 charge for 24 hours, know £12 at the multi storey further down the road but prefer not to have the 5 minute walk.

We were then also lucky that our room was ready. We’d booked a river view & when we walked into the room were not disappointed. You can tell it’s a fairly new hotel & everything was quite modern. We stayed on the 3rd floor & my heart sank a bit as we the room directly opposite the lift. However I never heard any noise from the lift overnight so was not a problem in the end.

The bed & pillows was so comfy & had a great nights sleep. The free mini bar was also much appreciated for the soft drinks.

If I had to mark the hotel alone it would’ve been 5 out of 5 but sadly we had the misfortune of making the mistake of having a drink in the bar. This is what soured the whole stay for me.

We sat down in the bar area & I had a look at the drinks menu. Yes they were overpriced already but I chose to have a large Pinot Grigio £10. The hubby a pint of Morretti £5.95. My husband went to the bar & got the drinks & then brought them back himself to our table. My Barclays App told me we’d just paid £17.55. My husband at the time didn’t question it but I went straight back to the bar & questioned why we’d been overcharged. Cue a very stubborn bar maid having a face off with me saying my husband had accepted (unknowingly) a 10% service charge for getting 2 drinks from the bar!!! He’d gone to the bar HIMSELF and delivered them to our table HIMSELF!! Where’s the service charge in that??? I said to her in all of the times we’ve stayed in hotels I’d NEVER known a service charge for getting a drink in a bar?? I challenged this charge & then she was fishing around in the bin trying to find my receipt. She wouldn’t back down on this & didn’t offer to refund me at any time. I went back to drink my now £11 glass of wine (£1 for pouring it for me)…. It stuck in my throat. When you can see Wetherspoons literally 10 steps away DON’T BOTHER drinking in this hotel bar.

I did mention this at check out & as the hotel & restaurant are supposedly separate but in the same building they can’t do anything. They did offer to sort a refund but I didn’t have my receipt as the bar maid couldn’t find my receipt in her bin the night before……

Nowhere on the drinks menu did it mention a service charge!!

I would stay at the hotel again but will not ever frequent Gino Decampo’s bar or restaurant ever again.

Room tip: Avoid the hotel bar

Dear AlisonWolsy,

Thank you for your review and glad to read that overall, you enjoyed your experience and that we only fell short of a 5-star review in one area.

I have shared your feedback with the team in Gino's and sorry to read that the team member you spoke with was less than polite when dealing with the issue you raised with them.

Thanks
Calum

Wow.

We booked the townhouse as were travelling with our 11 and 8 year olds. They therefore got the sofa bed in the 'living room', whilst we got the very comfortable super king bed in the bedroom. We also therefore had a TV for the adults and a TV for the children!

The rooms were spotless, and the views from the floor to ceiling windows on all sides out to the river absolutely stunning.

Running along the back of the 2 rooms was the en suite bathroom, with 3 (!) sinks, 2 side by side next to the master bedroom and one in the middle nearer the separate toilet. The shower was large, hot and powerful. The bath was super clean.

There was lots of useful space to 'settle in', so it didn't feel like living out of a suitcase.

Other nice touches: a fridge with free drinks (that was refilled throughout the stay), facilities for making tea, a coffee machine, a nintendo games console.

The 'living room' felt spacious even with the sofa bed out all the time, and there was a table with 4 chairs to allow us to sit and play games/read papers.

The all you can eat breakfast was also delicious - it delivered on fruit salad, pasteries and the cooked elements.

Things we loved: how super clean it was, how comfortable it was, the modern decor, the amazing views, the fantastic breakfast.

Things I would change: more than one hook by the door to hang coats on (there is lots of space so not sure why only one hook) and a box of tissues somewhere, but these are minor things. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

After a recent stay in the Torremolinos Melia my partner and booked to treat ourselves to a night in the new Newcastle hotel for our anniversary. There's nothing not to like, new rooms, comfy bed, great shower, fab river views and the latest technology in the tv which allows you to synch it with your phone to play Spotify or watch Youtube.
Breakfast was plentiful and served up in Gino's restaurant, which was absolutely heaving the night before.
The location is first rate and you have to feel a bit sorry for the Travelodge next door as they had all the views of the Tyne bridges before Melia popped up in the way.
A special mention to Myles, who kindly allowed us to swap nights and postpone for a couple of weeks when I came down with Covid, charging no extra despite moving from midweek to the weekend. Recommended.

The property it’s self is nice and rooms are good and clean. Breakfast was also very nice indeed . Let down by the parking ( not being allowed to park on site) was told couldn’t park where we had as it was the ‘fire meeting point’ only to find later that day a car parked in that exact spot. So basically lied. Anyway this was the big let down for me.

Dear Y7068YNnickh,

Thank you for your review and delighted to read that the property, your guest room and the breakfast in the morning were all aspects of your stay you enjoyed however sorry that there seemed to be a miscommunication from the team regarding parking which I shall ensure the correct messaging to our guests is used moving forward.
