I have been to Hall and Woodhouse several times and find the bar staff slow, disorganised and not very courteous. Recently when I had been twice to the bar (which was half empty) try to buy a drink three barmen were operating. I waited for some time and then asked someone who was cutting up fruit if he could serve me with a drink. He refused as he said he was doing a job - cutting fruit - and would not serve me.
I would like to ask: what is more important - selling a drink to a customer or cutting fruit?

We've been here before but not for a while, and decided to come back for the regular coincidence of Fathers' Day (for him) and birthday (for me).

We have fond memories from previous visits of fries with aioli; this has since been replaced with malt vinegar or harissa mayo, both of which we tried and both of which we enjoyed.

As mains we ate the pork roast (only the potatoes let it down slightly- they were a little hard), chicken caesar burger, H&W burger and the crab mayonnaise and whitebait. The whitebait was a very generous portion- might be a bit much as a starter! and the crab mayo was so smooth, sweet and tasty I'm still thinking of it now. This was served with crisp, thinly cut sourdough toast, my only quibble being that I could have done with another slice to scoop the last of the crab.

I was too full for any pudding, but the children tucked into lemon tart (disappeared in seconds) and St Clements posset (delicious) and Father had affogato, which he pronounced delicious, if overpriced for ice cream with sauce.

Looking for things to tweak: We were first given a table right next to the lift. As we were approaching it, the doors opened, so we asked to be moved- this was no problem, but could have made for an awkward dining experience. We were served by about four different people in total. We would prefer more consistency in this. There was also a rather nice presentation gift for Father on Fathers' Day- some local ale and a glass- although no notice was taken of my birthday badge. Perhaps I should have mentioned it when booking... (It was a Big Birthday!) We'll be back though.

We were recomended this pub by our AirBnb host. We had some pre-drinks on the roof top before sitting down to dinner in the main restaurant area. There was a range of beers on tap, excellent food and great service.

The interior is fantastic, and the restaurant is split over a couple of levels. Sadly the food didn’t match how great the place looked - had a very average burger, with very slow service and wasn’t very inspired by the menu.

After being out for a few hours and having had a few beers this place fitted the bill for a late evening bite to eat. They sell a good range of beers and the staff are friendly and attentive. A couple of us had their burgers, wow, a meal in themselves, freshly cooked and very tasty, another in our party had fish and chips, again a good sized portion and well presented.
The place was busy, but that didn't prevent the service being efficient, an obvious sign that is it not only popular but maintains a high standard of service and quality. I would imagine a meal there any timw of day would be good.
