I popped in to Proove to collect a takeaway pizza this evening and felt prompted to leave a TripAdvisor review, having been there with my family many times in the past year.
First, the good. My pizza was brilliant and that reflects the normal standard here. Really tasty, fresh ingredients ingredients and just like you’d order in Italy.
And the less good? In fact really very poor, the dismissive, wafting me away with his hand, cutting me off halfway through a sentence, wait over there sir, arrogance of who I guess is the manager. I had beenrequested to pay at the till and when politely asking to do so, was summarily dismissed as described, and for what? So that he could focus on an online order that had just flashed up on the till. Yes, the screen is significantly more important than a person at Proove it would seem. Appalling manners and it should be shocking but it isn’t.
It’s just a perfect example of that special kind of arrogance that only those with a hipster beard, two nose rings and an ironic 80’s print shirt can deliver.
Having done as I was told, I was then ignored by the guy for the next 5-10 minutes. I almost walked out, especially having watched one of the chefs grab a pizza with two hands and drop it into a takeaway box!
However, the situation was rescued by another staff member, Chloe. She was the person that took my order over the phone and was professional and pleasant in equal measure then and backed this up in person.
Having seen me stood in the restaurant, looking slightly miffed and in no mans land, she did a great job. She found out what I needed and why I was waiting, stopped what she was doing and took my payment then said she’d bring my pizza over as soon as it was ready. I then saw her go to the kitchen and explain I was here and expedited my order. Thank you Chloe.
As a Broomhill resident, my family and I have probably spent between £500-£1000 at Proove since it opened. Tonight was nearly the last penny but disaster was averted.
A shame to be treated so disdainfully, especially as the food was actually first class.
