Although the cost of entrance is £11 for an adult the money is being well spent on restoration and preservation. The cathedral from the outside is majestic, even more so inside. Make sure you visit the octagonal chapter house within, with its unusual gargoyles and sculpted heads above the stone seats. Also the undercroft is most interesting giving a comprehensive look at York Minster from its Roman beginnings to the present day. It is a perfect place to learn some history.
