Didn't prebook, just turned up. There was quite a cue but it moved quickly enough. Staff were good in that they interacted with you even when you were waiting in the cue. Attraction itself was good, an easy ride around the circuit with heaps to see. The museum section also had plenty of cool stuff to check out. Not cheap for visitors who can only go once (for locals its ok as their ticket is for 12 months). Worthwhile though

Visited today (30.05.18) school half term.
We booked online the day before and paid for the fast track tickets (extra £2 per transaction) in total it was £43 for 3 adults and one child age 5. So glad we paid for the fast track as when we arrived the “pay on the day” queue was so long it was a 2hr+ wait!! So 100% recommend pre booking and paying for the fast track in expected busy times like half term!
The place is in 3 areas and as we arrived in the 1st I was confused on what to do next? There was a lady at the door and I had to ask her where to go as it was are first visit in many years, she advised you looked around yourself and then made your way around a corner to the ride, she was very helpful but would have been nice to have been advised this without asking.
We got onto the ride to take you round the set up areas and it looked great at first, the cars seat 6 people so the lady recommended 2 on the front 2 in the back and then advised us about the different languages you could select as your tour guide and the great thing is you could select a English kids tour guide, great? No not really bearing in mind the speakers are built into each head rest so my 5 year old daughter was way below and couldn’t hear a thing! I had to put her on my knee best as I could due to the bar over our laps and lift her up as close to the speakers as I could do she could hear, when it is recommended for 5 and up they should cater for children’s sizes and maybe look to getting some adjusting speakers so children can actually hear what’s going on!!
Once the ride ended we went into the last part of the museum which has some display cabinets and you can have a coin made for £2 ...then it was over ..... 31 mins done
£43 for 31 mins now I would have not been happy to queue for 2 hours for a 31 min visit
It’s good that you can go again for a year but I won’t rush back there could have been a lot more done and made more interesting for the kids but there just wasn’t. Like the title says it’s good but not amazing and I’ve been much better places!.

After being recommended to us we planned to visit but had not pre booked.
Bank holiday weekend we only had to wait about 15 minutes to enter. Staff outside brilliant at keeping queues entertained and organised.
Tour on the ‘ride’ took no longer than approx 10minutes. Then the rest is a short self led viewing of artefacts found by archeologists.
Admission is quite expensive for what it was. We paid £55 for a family of 4 for a passport for all the linked museums.

A really fascinating, different type of experience - we forgot to book on line and so ended up queuing for 30 minutes but it was definitely worth it... There are 3 parts to the experience - the first area tells you about how the area was discovered and excavated, the second is the main event - a high tech ride back in time to travel through York in the time of the Vikings - all based on what they have discovered and excavated - really interesting and informative - and finally a more traditional museum with things in cases and interactive displays. Most definitely worth the entrance fee - AND - the ticket is good for 12 months so you can revisit as many time s as you want to in a year!

Spent a couple of hours at the end of the day enjoying Jorvik Viking Centre. Easy going "pod" ride through animated dioramas depicting Viking life and followed by a display of the excavations and some discovered artifacts. Very knowledable and interesting staff, and a fascinating look at part of local history. Recommended!
