Had been wanting to dine him for some time now and finally got the chance to go for what I can only describe as the best Sunday lunch I have ever had....

The food and service were both superb, it is evident that the chef and his team take pride in what they do and the ingredients and products that are sourced.

We had the Duck Salad and the Isle of Wight tomatoes to start followed by the Roast Beef. All of which were simply the best, the portion size of the beef was also a pleasant surprise as in the day of fine dining you often find that portion sizes are shrunk down.

On top of the food and service is the building itself, a very quirky and quaint building that is steeped in history.

Booking is a must to avoid disappointment, definitely worth a visit if your visiting Winchester and we look forward to returning soon.

We visited Winchester for the first time . We stayed in a very comfortable hotel however we decided to have our evening meal in this restaurant, rather than choosing the bistro linked with the hotel. Having done our research and booked in advance, we liked the look of the delightful historic building and the very tempting menu.

The setting and the menu did not disappoint t. Both were perfect. The service however was too slow and actually spoiled our evening. As we were seated, a large party arrived and they took priority leaving other guests neglected. The waiting staff were friendly and charming but for a restaurant of this quality not to be able to accommodate a large party and leave diners with no food for over an hour is inexcusable. I asked twice for our food to be served. We were entertaining guests from Australia and this was embarrassing and they were hungry! We were offered a glass of wine in compensation but it was just normal service we required. Such a shame as we were really looking forward you our visit.

We haven’t been to Chesil Rectory for some time as the food had always been ‘okay’. This time we went with friends who go often, and were really impressed.

We will definitely go back based on the quality of the food we received on this visit.

I had lunch in the restaurant for a friend’s birthday. The food was lovely, it was very well presented and the two course menu was good value for money when out for a treat! The service was great, the staff were friendly and very attentive to our table. I had mentioned when making the reservation that it was my friend’s birthday and the staff surprised her with some complementary chocolates at the end of our meal which was a lovely touch. Would definitely visit here again.

we were 2 couples visiting Winchester and booked this for a Saturday night. the food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and very good portion sizes. we were undecided on wine as we weren't familiar with some of them. we asked for advice and the bar man/manager gave us tasters of different wines to help us choose. he couldn't be more helpful. we have eaten in quite a few Michelin star restaurants and this restaurant could definitely compete. cant wait to come back
