My friend and I (66 & 71) booked #9 Shamrock ☘️ Room (on 2nd floor but 3rd floor for US people) for 2 nights pre-cruise (Cunard Queen Anne) on a Wednesday-Thursday; checking out on Friday and Uber to Southampton Mayflower Terminal.
We flew into Heathrow and took the National Express Bus from Terminal 3 to Southampton. We did have to walk a block on an uneven parking lot to where the taxis were located.
We booked the 1/2 board which means we got a wonderful breakfast: both hot food from a menu and a table of pastries, yogurts, fruit & juices. AND we got a delicious dinner every night too. The fish & chips were huge and so tasty. Was nice to know we didn’t have to worry about morning or evening eats as we were jet-lagged. You can also eat or drink out front under the canvas awning. Great place to people watch, too.
The steps are very narrow, we just do carry-on. But did have a little help but do not count on it. They recommend you leave your bigger suitcase on the 1st floor. There is a cute little living room on their 1st floor by the Oceanic Room. Every room is named after the White Star Fleet. It used to be called the “Alliance Hotel” back in the day. If you want the Titanic Room, please book way ahead of time.
The room had 2 big windows that looked over Oxford Street which no cars are allowed on. The room has USB ports which was terrific for US people. The bathroom was a nice size, too. Our room was configured for 2 twin beds.
One of the most amazing tours from VIATOR: “WALKING THE TITANIC TRAIL” with Brian. He will meet you at the Town Quay by Starbucks which is about a 20-minute walk. I highly recommend this and it ends right on Oxford Street where this Inn is. Perfect.
Another fabulous place for a mystical cocktail is The DARK ARTS POTIONS! Another must. It is located on 125 High Street by St. Michael’s Street. They have so many kinds of cool 3-D drinks!!! It’s all decorated inside, and we got to wear a witch hat, too. Say hi to Zoey! PS. You will walk right by this place on the Titanic Trail. It’s about a 7 minute walk from White Star. Also there is a COOP on the same block, so you can purchase your 1 bottle of wine for the cruise.
We didn’t hear any noise, but I have a tiny white noise travel machine. Would definitely come back here if I cruise out of Southampton again!!! In fact I would stay a few days longer to see Stonehedge and Highclere Castle.
