Birthday Stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Aug 2024
A very welcoming hotel with modern high quality interiors. I treated myself to an upgrade which was arranged through the lovely Miriam on the front desk, and im glad I did. The view from the suite was exceptional over the harbour and beyond. Breakfast was good quality and The Jetty Restaurant is well worth a visit, great views from Harbar on the top floor. A birthday to remember!

After a hot overcrowded train journey, exhausted, we finally made it to the hotel and it was like arriving at a water hole in a desert...!!
Lovely warm welcome, complimentary drink each to be taken at our leisure in the bar and the nicest airy room and such comfy beds….!
And a view from the window!!
Tea and coffee facilities and supplies did not disappoint and after a cup of Taylor’s Earl Grey and a little tasty Walkers shortbread we were revived and refreshed ready to head out.
Highly recommended!

I read a favorable review of your hotel in the Telegraph and we could not have been happier with our stay at the Harbour Hotel, Southampton. The suite was very large with a beautiful balcony and harbor view. The staff was very accommodating and dinner at the Jetty restaurant was excellent. Highly recommended.

Wow. ....on arrival .... but soon felt totally ripped off...after paying an extortionate room rate on our 2 night stay in excess of £500 per night.... we had to pay for....parking £40 late checkout..£25 for 1 hour... & on top of that breakfast was not included. Huge disappointment. We discussed our thoughts with Alana & Duty Manager Evie who showed no empathy or understanding of our disappointment, would not recommend or return ever.

Dear D9155VNstephenb,

Thank you for your feedback.
I'm sorry to read that your experience of your stay with us on this occasion was not what you hoped for. Our room rates are fluctuate throughout the year and this is indeed the peak season for us. I'm saddened to read your thoughts on our price point, which I would just like to assure you that we regularly compare to other five star hotels to ensure remains competitive and relevant for our target market. I'm sorry to read your feedback with regards to the team, who are usually highly praised on their excellent guest service, so I am surprised by your comments and cannot apologise enough that this was your experience.

Please allow me to reassure you that all our Southampton Harbour team are doing our best to ensure guests enjoy their stay, we do hope that we will have an opportunity to see you again.

Best wishes,
Xiaomin

I read the reviews of this hotel and was puzzled as we came away with a five star experience. First, it’s in a great location. We booked a Marina suite for one night pre cruise that had a huge balcony overlooking the peaceful marina. Our only negative was the room could have been cooler but as Americans we’re used to keeping our homes very cool during summer months so I’m sure that this may have left us wanting a cooler room. The bed was super comfortable and the room was spotless. A nice large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub along with double sinks gave plenty of space.

The balcony was huge. We purchased a bottle of wine after our dinner on the roof top and enjoyed it on our balcony. The staff at this hotel is amazing and worked hard to ensure that we had everything that we needed. They also transported us over to the cruise port this morning. A huge help. I would highly recommend the Harbour Hotel. I really have nothing negative to say about this property. We will be back next May when we cruise from Southampton again.

Came for a night to experience the Harbour brand as Southampton was closest (2 hours) to me, and considering the Salcombe harbour property which is approx 4 hours away for the future as it really looks like a great property but wanted to get a flavour of the hotel brand in general.

Overall, this is a beautiful property which lets it down fundamentally on account of customer service. For this reason I can only rate it 4 stars.

i) parking for hotel guests is payable, but for restaurant/bar guests free. What about when for example, you are a hotel guest who has also booked the evening terrace (conundrum I do hear) you are greeted with a ‘that parking validation machine is for restaurant guests only, you can use the parking which is charged by the hour or there is a parking nearby which is a a cheaper cost. So essentially having to move the car after arriving, hardly 5 star experience

ii) had a pre booked dinner reservation for 7pm on the terrace to enjoy the sun and make the most of the good weather. Had two missed calls after checking in but ignored as looked like spam calls and i was trying to enjoy my stay. Arrive at the terrace to be told they didn’t know who had called me, but that the terrace wasn’t available anymore. So basically you gave my table away to another guest after i checked in and then claimed you didn’t call me and that it must have been the reception. We were seated inside instead, despite there looking to be tree tables outside. Hardly 5 star experience.

iii) at check in told there’s decanter of gin in the room which is complimentary, arrive in room and you spot there are glasses, a decanter of gin and no mixers (except for payable mini bar drinks) within 15 mins of arriving in your room someone knocks at your door and asks you ‘would you like some ice and mixers’ of course, they are trying to sell you the mixers and this isn’t actually complimentary at all. It’s disingenuous. A pressure sell which is essentially the hotel trying to sell you mixers and not like they claim ‘offer you something complimentary’. I have no issue with paying for an extra just don’t try and pretend it’s free. Of course, the lady trying to sell the mixers doesn’t mention point i) that the restaurant are trying to ring to confirm your reservation.

It’s not all negative, the food served in the harBAR is really good, breakfast buffet and food cooked to order a great standard. The decor inside the hotel itself including rooms is really beautiful. The thing that lacks inside this hotel is the actual care for the customer experience. Please take this feedback on the chin, improve thins and make your place as good as it can be because these are things that can be changed.

Dear Stuphilippe,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us at Southampton Harbour and Spa. We appreciate the time that you have taken to leave us your 4/5 review; I am pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us and had a good experience overall.

I'm afraid to say that parking is not free anywhere in Ocean Village area specially we have the advantage of walking distance to the city centre; however we do offer a discount price £14 per day for our guests in multi-storey car park and 3 hours free parking for visitors to park opposite the hotel. I'm sorry if this was not explained well to you.

We do offer to all our guests complimentary Gin in rooms as a gesture as well as Turn-down service, which housekeeping team would ask guests if they need new towels, more tea bags or ice and lemon for drinks etc, these are all depends on guests preference. The team here at Southampton Harbour Hotel are all engaged to ensuring that our guests have a fabulous experience, however we are sorry if this caused any inconvenience to you and your stay with us. We would like to thank you for extended feedback regarding your experience in the restaurant. I have shared your feedback with the team; please rest assured that your feedback is important to us.

We are glad to read that you enjoyed the food in HarBar and found our hotel beautiful. Thank you again for your 4/5 review, we hope to see you again so you can experience a real 5 star hotel that we are normally proud of.

Best wishes,

Xiaomin
