Firstly, I need to say I run a B&B in Dorset and inevitably when we stay somewhere else I compare, can't be helped really. I found Peter and Helen's place lovely. Most importantly to me, particularly at the moment, the room was spotlessly clean. The shower was great and although we didn't stay long enough to try the roll top bath in the garden suite, I was very impressed with the waterproof telly!
Peter explained that his wife Helen, the chef, was disappointed that her breakfast offering in terms of the buffet that she usually provided couldn't be displayed or as comprehensive as usual. I found the table service of juice, fresh fruit, several cereals, thick local farm plain yoghurt, honey to name but a few, more than adequate and although Helen may be disappointed that things are not as she would like them, I can assure you, no guest would ever be disappointed with the quality and selection that Peter is happy to bring to table. I had salmon and scrambled eggs which were cooked perfectly and Paul had Eggs benedict, again perfectly poached eggs. The selection for cooked was above and beyond what I have found in many other B&Bs.
We met a member of the team who was really friendly and attentive to all the guests too, she's a real asset to their business.
I would not hesitate to recommend The Sommerville as the place to stay...Firstly, I need to say I run a B&B in Dorset and inevitably when we stay somewhere else I compare, can't be helped really. I would not hesitate to recommend The Sommerville as the place to stay in Torquay. Friendly, helpful owners, sparkling clean rooms that are well appointed with lovely comfortable beds, great food and a 5 minute walk into the town centre with safe parking on site for the car. I would not change a single thing.More
